Two sides of same coin - lots of autonomy to work independently but modest structure makes decision-making inefficient.

    Pros

Lots of room to work outside of the box to accomplish great goals.

    Cons

Very little dialogue on HR topics once you've been hired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add some efficiency in reporting internally so we can keep up the fast pace without multiple parties duplicating work.

I have been working at Aegis Living full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you share a passion for Seniors and want to help by working in a loving environment, Aegis Living is the right company for you. It does take a lot of emotional and physical work, but worth it when someone calls you their adopted grandchild or simply show appreciation and gratitude. The company is growing, and they are open to suggestions and ways to make things better for employees, residents and family members.

    Cons

The only thing I would say is limited opportunities to grow and advance in your position. Since we are growing, I hope to see more opportunity for growth in the future.

I have been working at Aegis Living full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

There is considerable flexibility in terms of your own creative approach on the job. I have been fortunate to be able experiment with various activities for my residents to improve the quality of their experience. This is something that is really important to me. In terms of promotions, the general manager appreciates talent and is keen to promote the right people if they show dedications and resolve.

    Cons

The cons come a little in conflict with the pros, they don't necessarily have to, but in this case they do. I think at the local level our company would benefit from more clearly defined structure. This could improve the integrity of our teams to function especially under high stress situations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company values are the core of our organization and what really sets us apart. If we can strengthen those core values through a little more structure, flexibility in our approach, and resolve then the sky is the limit for our team.

I have been working at Aegis Living full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

While the volume of growth is unanticipated and exciting, the people at the control panel have a great balance of conservative and edge-of-the-envelope enthusiasm so the risk of having to pull back and retrench is heavily mitiaged

    Cons

Sometimes we are too busy to handle all we have going on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be cutting back on employee empowerment when you should be tuning it up.

I worked at Aegis Living full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Aegis executives are truly engaged in making sure management feels supported. They actively support a culture of positivity and frequently engage their directors in team building events and encouragement, with daily standups and quarterly meetings. I had immense respect for all of the executive higher-ups, whom I had the chance to get to know well during years of working for the company.

    Cons

Their more distant properties from the home base in Seattle don't reap the rewards of having access to upper management. Sometimes line staff don't communicate their needs and the corporate structure doesn't enforce frequent feedback or performance reviews.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold your General Managers accountable to get feedback from staff. Let the rank and file know that you care.

    Pros

If you'd rather go to bed tired than going to bed bored, you are looking in the right place. If you want to foster real leadership relationships w/ top quality individuals then you have arrived. If you really believe you have what it takes to grow revenue by loving on and helping hurting families through the ageing process than you've found a good place to research. If you have the "true" skill of juggling lots of balls and spinning many plates all at the same time w/ a smile on your face then you found the right spot. If you have the smarts to streamline expenses w/out cutting customer service and care then we should meet. If you have the GUTS to always do the right thing even when it's inconvenient then you've arrived. If you want to be richly rewarded through truely helping the greatest generation then come join us.

    Cons

I wish more doctors and nurses knew and understood more about dementia and what we do.
The senior living industry is going to sky rocket in the near future as we're seeing more families dealing w/ dementia.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thanks for this life changing rewarding opportunity.

    Pros

Áegis prides itself on improving the lives of seniors and this philosophy is extended to all of its employees as well. Senior management encourages personal and professional development so that each employee is not only contributing to the success of the company today but can growth with the company over time. There is a sense and feeling that the entire company at all levels is moving in the same direction.

    Cons

It can be heart breaking to witness the frailty of some residents when visiting the communities out in the field.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to maintain the open lines of communication with all levels of staff as the company grows.

    Pros

Access to senior executives. In expansion & growth mode. Always pushing the envelope and challenging everyone to excel.

    Cons

Internally competitive with some politics. Need to be a workaholic. Difficult to get work/personal life balance here. Once you succeed, the company asks for more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more resources in effective training. Need systems that allow flexibility. Help key employees and managers achieve balance.
