I worked at Aflac part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I was only an intern, but my boss and the human resources guy in the office were really cool and helpful. Other than that...not so much.

    Cons

Everyone is an independent agent of Aflac, so there wasn't really a "team environment".
As an intern, nobody really bothered to get to know me...spent most days just talking to my boss. Lost morale quick and stopped returning after a few weeks.
    A LOT OF COLD CALLING.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management was cool. Not much to say for them. Maybe try to get everyone on the same page. I understand everyone has their own accounts, but something can be done to foster employee relations

I have been working at Aflac full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    flexible hours, great training program,

    Cons

In my interview for the job I was told I would easily make 3k within my first two weeks of working. I was told we'd be working warm leads with companies that want Aflac. None of this was true, you cold call and find your own leads. Most people I know there have been working for over half a year and have yet to make a dime.

If you're serious about working for Aflac make sure you have plenty of money in your savings so you can pay your rent and bills for at least 6 months before starting your job here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't lie in the interview process, tell future employees the truth about making money.

I worked at Aflac full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Learned a lot about myself and how to really get out there and hunt for new business.

    Cons

100% commission results in "hiring" anyone who walks in the door leading to a market that is dominated by rookie agents. This makes business a lot more difficult for legitimate agents working to continually build their book.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more selective and take pride in who you hire!

I worked at Aflac full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

No chance of being laid off, flexible hours. Commission paid soon after closing a sale. Other agents in office were good people.

    Cons

Calling on prospects that have received 20 calls that month from 20 different Aflac people. People hang up on you without understanding the value of offering the benefits to their employees because they're tired of the phones calls from agents. Hard to have prospects keep appointments, show up to scheduled appointment and person is not available.

    Pros

Freedom to work at your own pace. Good recognition of superior sales performance.

    Cons

No leadership, everyone is out to help themselves. No real (helpful) training, you're expected to pound the pavement every day, constantly making cold calls. Even employees who had been there for years complained about how little (money) they made. Not a great place to work, period.

Former Employee - AFLAC Field Sales Agent in Louisville, KY

I worked at Aflac full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Freedom to set schedule, nice people. very few pros

    Cons

Good luck attitude from management that refuses to do the job they ask of you. SEVERE over saturation in the market expect no contact with decision makers as a rep was in the office 2-3 days ago. No market planning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Unless the candidate lives with their mom and dad still and can sell to "c" level management it isn't a good fit. Sales cycle will range from 3mo to 4.5yrs or more so if you have a home expect to lose it by the time you get on your feet at aflac. Management says the love you but then tells you you are a 2 out of ten. Its like a relationship with a bipolar control freak that puts words in your mouth then is critical of what you say. Good luck if you want to waste time, energy, and auto expenses to give your book to management as soon as you get close to vesting.

I worked at Aflac as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

No need to go to the office

    Cons

It's a pyramid scheme, there are no base salaries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The lack of continuity is a problem - often the same companies with be pitched multiple times by various agents, all without the awareness that someone has been there before them. It doesn't inspire much confidence from your would-be clients.
