I worked at Agfa Healthcare full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    People working there are great

    Cons

Management is having trouble with keeping the applications easy to use and customer friendly . Also getting the product out on time and working as advertised.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you cant retain your president of the NA organization is not bode well to customers or employees. Stop working the field and support people to death. Stop with the 10-14 hr. days every day of the week and then expect paper work done on employee time on weekends.

I have been working at Agfa Healthcare full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. Independence. Great opportunity to advance. If you are a hard worker, you can easily make a name for yourself and open up doors.

    Cons

Reorganization every couple years. Poorly managed. Virtually no raises, unless you stand out above the rest. Bleak outlook. Salaried employees are overworked and underpaid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the US run it's own organization. Price the products more competitively to get us in the door. Then earn the customers trust.

I have been working at Agfa Healthcare full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The total compensation is pretty good (see cons). The benefits package is pretty good. Most of the people are great to deal with and the company does have a knack for hiring some very talented people. Remote work is allowed but limited. There is some limited promotion opportunities. The company has a decent software portfolio. Rewarding industry to work in!

    Cons

Frequent layoffs and restructures. In one year alone I had 4 separate bosses. They do not do regular annual cost of living adjustments (only 2 out of the 7 years I've been with them). There is limited promotional paths; most job changes are treated as lateral moves with HR unwilling to provide a decent increase in pay. The company is not against remote workers but is now limiting it and is only hiring certain positions out of an office. The company is very number oriented. Line managers are forcing numbers over quality to appease upper management. Slow bug fixes and many times we tell our customers to buy new version of software for the fix they seek!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the frequent layoffs and restructuring. We haven't had a new sale install in a long time. Are we even trying to get new sales/clients?

    Pros

They have a real good Benefits program.

    Cons

They say they are all about Customer Service and Customer Satisfaction.
In reality, management just wants to see the numbers.
They have lost touch with the employees, especially the Field Engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management should take a hard look at the middle management.
Seems to be a whole lot of chiefs and not alot of indians.

I worked at Agfa Healthcare full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Heartlab was basically a good image company that over extended itself with unfulfilled promises.

    Cons

When sold to to Agfa, very few of the promises made to customers who had already purchased the product were not fulfilled. Most of the software promised was actually vaporware and did not exist. Agfa was duped in to buying product features that were not developed and were for the most part never going to be developed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When buying company, forget the hype and look at the customers

I have been working at Agfa Healthcare full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, stable once you get the sense of how things work.
Products are respected in the market, that helps to get things done and fulfill that need of achievement.

    Cons

There is not a career path created by managers. You have to keep an eye on how you can grow internally, otherwise you can stay there for years (assuming you do your work alright and nothing external like a economy crash or revenue impact the business) withouth a raise.
There is a lot of people not committed to company goals. E.g. people not even answering back emails to owners of the same team. Managers don't care.
Functional teams (e.g. Sales and Services) are not integrated and each manager looks for its own interests. There are no clear responsibilities defined, ending up in confusion to those that are in the front line. At the end the customer ends with the worst part.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look further than revenue interests. Just a few managers understand this. Look over the fence to other IT companies that try to get their employees trained, give new opportunities and responsibilities.

    Pros

Other than top management a really good team to work with.

    Cons

Upper management is always in panic mode. They are reacting to the market instead of leading it.
Belgium dictates to the US when trying to assist can be so much more profitable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop cutting positions to make budgets. Get "REAL" and achievable budgets in place.

I have been working at Agfa Healthcare full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The company is very competitive in the industry and the industry is on the rise. The products that we make are very cool and cutting edge. Our products literally help save the lives of our patients. Being a part of that is really cool.

    Cons

Since the company is a European company, there are a lot of things that are pushed down to the US that just don't work in the US. It is the overall feeling that "they just don't get us".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
