Excellent prior to the split from HP

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsInteresting work is available to challenge engineers.

ConsLower than competative wages for most US employees except very high level management.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on innovation not on cost cutting. Value employees and pay above average compensation. Rebalance age distribution in US and Europe.

    Great Employees, poor management

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsEmployees are the soul of the company, great legacy, innovative company.

ConsManagement rules with fear of job loss unnecessarily, constant middle management turnover weakens perceptions, layoffs over even slightest dip in forecast results, drive to earn bonuses is employees' perception of management decisions

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat employees as adults and give them a reason to feel safe and secure. Hard to have self-confident employees who spend time worrying about their jobs, even when they have done little wrong, due to management decisions.

Not much of the old HP culture left

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGood amount of vacation time. Several jobs allow you to work from home.

ConsManagement no longer seems to value input from its employees. It is very much an "everyone can be replaced culture" now. Too bad it was so much more of a team effort back in the HP days. Compensation is no longer among industry leaders. Not even close.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou might think about listening a little bit more to your subject matter experts.

This is an ok place to have a job, but not a career

    Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
    Englewood, CO

ProsAgilent is a well known company with strong assets. The offer stock programs, and have full health benefits for full time employees. In the call center, there is the ability to have a stable job without much education.

ConsAgilent dropped all educational benefits in 2010. In addition, Agilent plays way too much on the stock market valuations, as opposed to sound business practices. As an example, there is/was a couple that worked in the call center, and both of them have been laid off 3 times, only to be re-hired within the next year. The money they have made on their termination packages has bought them a second home.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhile this market is one for treating people like commodities, that shouldn't be made obvious by management. You had a senior manager come right out and tell everybody "we had over 100 applicants for 3 jobs" in reference to why they didn't take better care of their employees.

mediocre salaries and raises and no advancement opportunities

    Manufacturing Technician (Former Employee)
    Wilmington, DE

ProsFlexible work schedules allow you to have a good work life balance. I had no problem spending time with my family, making doctors appoinments, kids recitals etc. They provide a great environment for innovation and thinking outside the box. They support you in these efforts and reward you with small trinkets and gift cards. You come up with a way to save them say 50k a year and they give you say a 25 dollar gift card(for example). It took me way too long to realize that I had to get another job so that I could reach my financial and lifestyle asperations. However, they did throw some great employee parties with good food, good music and alcohol on the company premises which made for some awesome times.

ConsPoor pay and raise structure. No advancement for the average Joe. Political/favoritism.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe realistic to new hires about the potential for career growth and salary increase opportunities.

    Poor managment and work/life balance

    Field Service Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsIt's a job that pays the bills.

ConsNo life/work balance. Management does not listen to employees or customers. Poor pay and other compensation considering the high level of stress and 24/7 demands of the job. There is no real room for advancement and minimal job growth.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to your customers and employees. Employees should be compensated to industry standard. Without your employees and customer base you have no business so listen to them

    Contractor in Santa Clara office

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Santa Clara, CA

ProsMost of the team members are friendly people. Many long term employees

ConsIf you are a contractor, then the manager will make sure that you are not invited for group lunch/lunch out paid by the company or not invited for any company events. You will also be denied of getting better computer even if the computer is not working in good condition. Pay is lower than market

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep boasting your profit increase while keep outsourcing and making contractors as the second class workers

Agilent lost it's focus over the years

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsCo-workers were great and very supportive

ConsAgilent lost it's heart when they gave up the principles that Dave and Bill founded the company on (Agilent is a spin off of Hewlett Packard)

Advice to Senior ManagementStop the favoritism

It seems like a great place to work. Unfortunately, I didn't have that experience

    Engineering Intern (Former Employee)
    Santa Clara, CA

ProsThe working environment was great here. Everyone was friendly and could answer your questions easily. Most of the people I worked with were very knowledgeable in their respective fields.

ConsMy assigned project did not have much relevance to my field of study. I'm more of a hardware person and they had me doing software. On top of that, most of my project was not that difficult to do. It was a lot of copying and pasting. Worst part of my project was to accomplish some impossible tasks in the software. My mentor already tried and knew that it wouldn't work and they had me try it as well. Also, somehow I was stuck with doing some temperature testing of their products when I don't think I was supposed to. My mentor was also MIA a lot of the times so it made asking questions a little harder. At the end of each internship, each intern in the company has to make a presentation to the whole division. Since my project was simple, it made it fairly difficult to present any real meat. In essence, I don't feel like my job position was outlined that clearly and I don't think I learned as much technical knowledge as I could have for future roles.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt's best to keep groups or divisions working within close proximity of each other. I was in one group on paper because that group had the funds to hire that many interns, but I was working in another. It made things more complicated on my end.

    Many Changes

    Paralegal (Former Employee)
    Santa Clara, CA

ProsGood work environment when I worked there, by that I mean the physical environment.

ConsMany lay-offs and shrinkage in the legal department and elsewhere in the company; inflexible access to executives, almost a sanctuary environment, needed general counsel, hard to find or talk to.

Advice to Senior Managementnot sure where you are now; it was a great place but changed so much

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
