I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I got to work from home. Adequate compensation. I worked in small multi disciplined group.

    Cons

Big company, little chance for rapid advancement or feeling like major contributor or having personal choice. Pretty tight purse strings. Poor IT support. Weak management. They extolled work life balance, but actually it was mostly a lot of work. Laid off entire department when they could easily have repurposed a good team of engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value a good team more and keep the rather than disposing to save dollars. Good proven team of engineers has high vlaue.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The biggest pro for working at Agilent is the quality of most of the people that work there. There are some dedicated people working in R&D, Tech Services, Sales, and even Marketing. The benefits are nice and compensation is pretty good. There are also opportunities to evolve your position through hard work and making sure the right people notice.

    Cons

Like most other tech companies, one of the biggest cons is being unofficially on call nights and weekends. I worked on the business side of things and management was going through transition, so it felt like you had to make sure to check email before going to bed and before going into the office. It really wasn't uncommon to get a response from the GM at 10:30pm or to get an all division email sent at 4:00am.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management could use a closer relationship to their independent contributors (those who don't manage others) and first line managers. A lot of good, knowledgeable people left because direction changed and management did not communicate the change or the new priorities effectively down the chain.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Company successful in what it makes. Flex hours, on site fitness center, tennis courts, volleyball courts, fitness track are all pluses.

    Cons

Decreasing benefits. Poor medical insurance. Stagnant wages. Profit sharing virtually eliminated. Every year the benefits seem to get worse. Training of employees almost non-existent. Too many managers and not enough people actually doing the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider increasing the salary scale for long term employees. Consider promoting senior professionals to senior level positions with different wage scales. Improve training. Eliminate the unfair and annoying practice of different profit sharing for different people.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

    Good people and friendly staff

    Cons

tough working as contractor..No reward even after getting praised for your work. Do not hire contractors as full time employee.

Contractor are not treated well in terms of inviting/informing them to company events, celebration of product release even when you are the biggest contributor some time.

Manager are good but are tied up by Agilent strict contractor policies

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat contractor fair..they could be your future employee and may contribute more if rewarded for good work.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Agilent does interesting projects. Individual contributors tend to be nice, and competent. Management at all levels: not so much.

    Cons

Agilent tolerates bad managers. There appear to be no repercussions for those that ruin the company, or are imcompetent. Cronyism is tolerated. Mediocre pay. Lays off divisions freely and frequently.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good products some great people

    Cons

The bureaucracy is horrific. Too much "anything someone else doesn't want to do" is piled on customer-facing employees, and there are too few of them. Company is very bloated in middle management, perhaps in part as an attempt to make people feel they have a career path.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fill in the bottom of the pyramid. The company is pear-shaped
