I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Benefits, profits sharing, flexible hours

    Cons

Health benefits getting worse every year.. might be better to get ACA.
Profit sharing based on ROIC, if there is an acquisiion it is severely hurt. Has been the case for the last two years.
Flexible hours depend on the job and manager.

Raises not given often "due to the poor economy". When they do its very small.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To upper management: share the wealth how is it ok for you to make 10x+ more than the average worker who can barely get by in a twobincome household. Agilent is not alone its a culture of corporate greed.
Also stop outsourcing Android sending jobs overseas. It might help profits but how much is enough? Its companies like you who are contrihutjng to the horrible economy.
STOP decreasing benefits, making us pay more for less. With higher cost of everything and hardly any raises the last the ten years or so its as if we are making less.
They probably know this but again.. every company is doing it is its ok

Excellent Early Career Development Opportunities; Glass Ceiling at Mid-Career Level

Current Employee - Finance Manager  in  Santa Clara, CA

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Collaborative culture
Opportunities to learn, develop, and grow, especially for early-career professionals
    Friendly, smart, hard-working people
    Great work-life balance and flexibility

    Cons

Limited advancement opportunities for mid-career professionals
Management and senior leaders entrenched in their positions and play "musical chairs" with no real advancement opportunities for younger talent
Limited leadership opportunities for women and minorities
Pay and benefits (e.g. stock compensation) below Silicon Valley standards
Constant cycle of workforce reductions, cost cuts, and budgets controls

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to retention of your top talent. To keep high performers, you have to reward and promote them. You do a great job hiring, developing and training employees, but then lose them because of the lack of career growth opportunities. With the aging employee population, developing next-generation leadership bench will be critical if Agilent wants to continue the growth momentum.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies

    Pros

Great people. Many people have been there >15 years, and there is a ton of institutional knowledge.

    Cons

IT budgets are so tight to where it is extremely difficult to do anything more than run day-to-day. The money is there, but they are terrified to invest.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent yet a bit late decision to spin off electronic T&M group
Great individuals and teams around the world do know how to deliver amazing results
Very few senior managers are excellent in mentoring new employees and adopting change

    Cons

Some long-time and/or senior employees (especially from larger sites) have a well established network, influencing or trying to control key changes in major initiatives as they see fit - expect the unexpected

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Accelerate a true adoption of younger generation(s) in senior management
Continue staying focused on growth, innovation and superior operational results

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nice people to work around. Good environment. You have enough freedom and time to do your work.

    Cons

Bad employee benefit and bad high level management. Company is going to divid by two and they are pround of it? They didn't realize that company is already small enough?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do you know what's the value of your employee? Don't lie to people or make the target/ things you can't achieve.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Cool toys : Great rank-and-file engineers

    Cons

Management only knows how to profit in up ramp boom cycles. Don't have a clue how to manage stable markets for profit. All about the "Tail-wagging-the-dog" chasing and manipulating asset value quarter-to-quarter. Their first response to any fiscal challenge is to downsize workforce or off-shore. Management has no credibility with rank-and-file anymore.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop pretending this is a "growth" company and focus on delivering dividends, a far more stable objective which will attract investors and reduce all the internal thrash.
