I have been working at Agilent Technologies (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The old HP managers still have the values that made the company great

    Cons

The shift of IT to India has changed the culture. US employees are considered overhead, and are pushed out before they can get to retirement.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great life/work balance, flexible hours. Beautiful Santa Rosa site. Mostly great people.
Good place to hide for enginners who don't want to work too hard.
    Slow paced.

    Cons

Regular layoffs to skeeze a bit more profit affecting only individual contributors.
Huge hierarchy of management (8 levels!)
Upper management always keep pressure so that salary increases remain minimal and employees are kept on their toes: either it's a bad year, or it's good but didn't meet the just upwardly revised expectations, or it's good for now but is expected to turn bad next year.
    Slow paced.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

You will work with the best engineers and scientists in the world.

There are still pockets of the HP Way in Agilent but those employees are aging out.

    Cons

Expect to go through Workforce Management cycles (i.e. layoffs) every two years. Your favorite project will probably get cancelled, possible for political reasons.

The American workforce is pretty old. Most new hires are overseas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

No predetermined work hours. Can work any shift. Job stability.

    Cons

Low salaries far below market average at some locations and tiny raises if any. Lack of consistency in project planning and follow through.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are a lot of disgruntled employees that would change jobs if the market improves. 5 years without even a cost of living increase.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time

    Pros

Decent salary, good benefits, and some amazing co-workers

    Cons

They preach respect, but senior leadership fails to respect their employees. There are some significant leadership issues on Chemical Analysis side of the company and Sr. level managers seem to be held to a lesser standard than individual contributors, and somehow get away with much more than should be acceptable in a professional environment

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Agilent Technologies is a large company that offers a lot of benefits to its employees including stock options, great healthcare package, and bonuses.

    Cons

A lot of processes at Agilent are not efficient and need to be improved but the existing infrastructure makes it difficult for change to be propagated. Also the fact that it's split into 2 divisions creates unique challenges from a reporting perspective.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take time to get to know your employees.

    Pros

Slow pace, you can relax a lot if you're a software engineer.
You can have great work & life balance.

    Cons

So many people are older than you.
Do not be ambitious. It will not fit the culture.
If you stay there for too long time, you cannot move to any other good places.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There so many good talents wasted here.

I worked at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very good benefits, compensation and work-life balance objectives. Senior management strives for improvement and brings much value to the over-all company as a whole. Good leadership and very proactive in the community.

    Cons

Career advancement can be limiting from within, depending on politics. Mostly great people to work with, although there are those, as in most any company that stand-out in not-so-great ways.

I worked at Agilent Technologies as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Some of the smartest people that I have ever met.
Dedication beyond what I would expect.
Good communication from management to employees.
    Vast intellectually challenging opportunities
High flexibility in deciding works schedule.

    Cons

Up and down nature of the test and measurement industry.
Lack of opportunities for personal growth (they outsource their HR)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back human resources in house. I probably am not alone in hating outsourced HR.
