    Pros

You don't have to worry about losing your job as a contractor, as long as you perform,

    Cons

The US engineering office is in Wichita, KS, of all places.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't let the company end up like some of the Wichita aircraft companies.

    Pros

Great energy, drive, and core people. Strongly committed to the industry, to customers and to idea of public safety. A company on the rebound that has shown a willingness lately to listen to employee ideas. The intro of new CEO in last few years has really helped. Solid products that work. Lots of big ideas and creativity currently running through the company's veins.

    Cons

With exception of CEO and one or two others the company has a very weak executive management team. New blood needed to take company to next level. Software development and product management are abysmal -- continually late in delivering products and late to the market in general with no apparent accountability or end in sight. Struggle to make decisions. Struggle with change necessary to grow business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hold software developers accountable.

    Pros

Great benefits! Good work environment. The people are friendly and love what they do and working for the company.

    Cons

A lot of the employees have been with the company for over 30 years. Not too much room for advancements.

Current Employee - Engineer III in Wichita, KS

    Pros

The people are great. The pay and benefits are great. Management treats everyone respectfully and professionally. The company is expanding in the US.

    Cons

The work is boring. Partially because work is slowed by a tremendous amount of bureaucracy and paperwork/reports. Unfortunately, the engineering offices are located in two of the least interesting US cities.

Former Employee - Intern Engineer  in  Mobile, AL
Former Employee - Intern Engineer in Mobile, AL

    Pros

To start, the Mobile office is filled with very friendly co-workers. Great mixture of senior level, mid-level, and green employees from all types of backgrounds (airplane, helicopter, space craft, civil engineering, etc.). Excellent diversity, many locals as well as transplants.
The work environment was impressive. Great office lighting, window views, furnishing, and equipment. Something you can't appreciate until you have worked at a place with awful lighting and equipment.

    Cons

Work was slow for a while during the tanker bidding. Advancement seemed limiting for some groups, and no virtually no limit for others.

    Pros

Collegial Atmosphere, Sense of purpose, outstanding benefits, very bright people, opportunity to travel and work with different cultures and mindsets.

    Cons

Loss of contracts and Federal budget cuts led to layoffs and under-staffing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be careful who you trust. Follow through. Explore new opportunities outside of your comfort zone. Trust your people. Be receptive to diverse opinions.

Current Employee - Project Performance Manager  in  Filton, England (UK)
Current Employee - Project Performance Manager in Filton, England (UK)

    Pros

You can have great work-life balance, flexible working hours, flexible working location and the new aerospace park buildings are an excellent environment to work in. There are a lot of smart and interesting people that you may work with and many interesting projects. For internal employees there are a lot of training opportunities and a lot of perks.

    Cons

Politics, politics, politics. Most middle and senior managers are so involved into politics that it feels like the company is paralysed by it. There is big disconnection between the central team in France and the UK and it feels like a parent-kid relationship. There is a lot of dead weight and there are people sitting there doing nothing for weeks or even months. Due to the nature of the business there is a lot red-tape and the bureaucracy can be burdensome at times. There is no much opportunity for career progression in the area of project management, especially if you are a contractor. In some cases contractors are being treated as b-class citizens in comparison to internal employees and there is a high-turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to focus more on management and leadership and reduce politics in the organisation. Hire more people knowledgeable in management and put them into key places.
