I have been working at Airgas full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    There is now NO best reason to work here. Watch your back!! Even after they fire employees that were great workers they continue to talk smack about them. Of course they can't defend themselves, they r fired. If you complain about mgt they will target you for a firing. If you work a lot of OT they ask why??? Continued under CONS;

    Cons

They pile work on you then say why does it take u so long, work safely but ya gotta go faster but slow down....HUH!!!! Politics in this place is running rampant.
Safety meetings are a joke, they brush thru the info and give answers to the tests. Why do these "meetings"on a Friday when everyone wants to get out early or on time. Drivers ARE watched...WATCH OUT!! Your not allowed to use common sense. They treat everyone like they are children.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit bashing fired employees as you look like idiots. Move on!!! Safety meetings are a joke, try actually training us. Leave the drivers be. No wonder they r all going UNION.

I worked at Airgas full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There is consistent safety training although many do not apply the information. Bi weekly salaried checks. Constant food from vendors and cookouts.

    Cons

No sales training. Reps only sell based on lowest price. Most reps hired have no hunter mentality and due to recent changes in structure, Call centers are basically full of customer service reps and administrative assistant for outside sales team. Micromanagement is key to success. SAP is cumbersome, poorly designed and hard to learn. Call center environments as a whole are breeding ground for gossip and negativity. And that's at any company. Very little work gets done because reps are more focused on dress code and the latest gossip than closing the sale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dont waste your time giving advice to upper management. They won't listen anyway.. but advice to you if you work here or want to.. Learn SAP (15 months learning curve). Learn about real sales processes (continuously grow and revamp). Stay out of the drama. Use this place as a stepping stone and get out.

    Pros

Really don't have a good reason to work for Airgas.

    Cons

Compensation didn't compare to expectation. Room for advancement is limited to who you know instead of what you know.

    Pros

Salary is decent, My direct manager is good. A ton of products to offer, but help on the products was hard to get.

    Cons

Upper management is out of touch, Training and direction is lacking. Very little direction besides pickup new accts. Billing was a nightmare and often could not make deliveries to customers on time. Would not recommend this company.

I worked at Airgas full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The package gas industry is recession-proof, and can be highly profitable. Thus, there is excellent potential for job security and longevity. Training and safety are strongly emphasized at the plant level, and capital is available to support best practice on the shop floor.

    Cons

Local culture and corporate culture do not always integrate seamlessly. The rapid absorption of so many small businesses makes it difficult to align the best practices of Airgas with the operational model of the individual businesses.

I have been working at Airgas

    Pros

Pay is comparable to other companies

    Cons

As a collector, you are responsible for knowing and following up on other departments. Managers have unrealistic expectations and accountability is in the wrong place.
Having collectors responsible for ensuring that assets are returned and accounted for is a bad practice.
The company needs to invest more in bar coding for tracking their assets.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

need to invest more in the capabilities of SAP, and workers would not have to do as much follow up and tracking information.

I have been working at Airgas full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good pay and health benefits.

    Cons

Large company that operates like a mom and pop. It is not about what you know it's about who you kiss up to. Knowledge, skills and abilities come second to your ability to say "yes sir".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees as valued partners. Once employees feel valued and appreciated they will be committed to producing good results. Managing employees through intimidation does not produce excellent long term results and will not give Airgas a competitive advantage. Until Airgas embrace these concepts, they will not be able to retain talented team members. Many of us remain at Airgas because we need the job. If given a better opportunity we would run. Is that what you really want?
