    Cons

Swirling around the toilet for 12+ years. Raises are non existent so employees cannot even keep up with inflation.

This is Dilbert's company. Management is even worse than the cartoon.

    Pros

Flexibility to work remotely. Can work from anywhere you there a phone and an internet line.

    Cons

Old school top/down management. Segregation of thinkers from doers. Undervaluing input from employees. Stuck in declining market

    Advice to Management

Recycle your old school execs, look to silicon valley culture as a model

    Pros

Used to be a great company with good benefit such as high 401k matching, great medical insurance, etc.

    Cons

Ever since the merging with Lucent, the company has not found its track. Now, the company is merging with Nokia. Good luck ALU.

    Pros

Can't think of anything good about the future of this company.

    Cons

Layoffs, layoffs, and more layoffs. No raises. Minimum bonuses, if any. Not very exciting work for US employees.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your employees like liabilities and start treating them as assets.

    Pros

Window office, decent Manager, flexhours, work from home sometimes allowed.

    Cons

Hostile environment, one team treats every other team like crap and gets away with it, even though HR is aware of the situation. many people have quit due to this one team bully and hostility towards others. Work long hours, under staff for support required, wont hire new staff for our team yet other departments can hire. No raise in 8 years.

    Advice to Management

Fix the personnel issues, hire needed staff so we can provide the support as we should, and give raises instead of bonus which amounts to pocket change after taxes.

    Pros

Good work/life balance, depending on who you work under.

    Cons

DREADFUL leadership, the Nokia acquisition of ALU spells the death knell of the company. Rolling layoffs every month to meet the acquisition numbers with no care about the impact to the customer. This company is totally unstable.

    Advice to Management

Fat cats are bailing up top... not much to be done here except move deck chairs on the Titanic.

    Pros

Great people, my peers, in Plano Texas.

    Cons

No raises. No upward mobility. Not stable. Have essentially been in "merger mode" since the merger of Alcatel and Lucent in 2006. Now we have Nokia buying ALU, so even more uncertainty. Too many remote / virtual teams where one doesn't even see their manager face to face. I like to be able to walk into my boss's office to discuss something.

    Advice to Management

Senior management doesn't understand what it takes to do the work. The company could use a good dose of General Patton to issue some orders and break down stovepipes barriers. It is still way too easy for groups in survival mode to stay static and protect their own, instead of evolving to be better supporters of internal and external customers.

    I worked at Alcatel-Lucent

    Pros

    Normally relaxed environment. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Sometimes too relaxed. Many situations were a person was hired, and then brought in all of his/her friends. Little if any accountability at times.

    Advice to Management

Take a hard look at the 'clans' that exist as a result of hiring practices. Take a hard look at the amount of out-sourced work that fails (i.e., 70% of the code fails).
