    I worked at Alcoa

    Pros

Project flexibility, friendly and helpful co-workers, housing stipend for interns, good pay

    Cons

Horrible location, not much to do outside of work. Not a great place for a single 20-something.

I have been working at Alcoa full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Room for advancement. Great products. knowledgeable people and supervision. there is always something to learn and the pace is fast and exciting

    Cons

The main issue I have is with compensation and salary grades. It takes awhile to build momentum and to get a lager salary compared to other companies of this caliber

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have no real advice to management. It is a huge company and they obviously know what direction they are headed in. I would say it makes sense to continue to hire bright people and train them well

I worked at Alcoa as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Really great R&D center, plenty going on. There were tours of the buildings and workshops. They treated their interns really well, and they had plenty of programs and outings to encourage interaction.

    Cons

They were sometimes a little too disconnected from the real world. The salaries offered for full time positions were not exactly competitive.

    Pros

Co-workers are great to work with and policies are great for salary workers, i don't know about hourly. Overall good company

    Cons

Yes it is a great place to work in due to the fact that they make you feel like family but pay is extremely low for engineers

I have been working at Alcoa full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

work-life balance, good people, upstanding company, good to the community, good health care and benefits

    Cons

old school work politics, more focused on keeping people happy than making tough decisions about personnel, could reward young talent better

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sever ties with complacent long-time workers who just come in for a paycheck and focus on rewarding those who give it their all.

I have been working at Alcoa as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Intern program very good with lots of visibility to management. Some new skills will be learned, you get to interact with everyone.

    Cons

HR is so slow, expect months to get hired. Structure is very flat, you will not be promoted except from junior to normal to senior.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take advice from anyone, there are areas where more money can be made.

    Cons

Worst, worst, did I say THE WORST Management, local and corporate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review your management on a local and plant level in Cleveland and please remove non-producers. Those who ride the coattails of their subordinates without reward or recognition.
