I have been working at Alfred Angelo Bridal part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

It's like playing dress up and getting to know and bond with other co-workers can be fun.

    Cons

The pay isn't great. Consultants get blamed when sales are down when really it is due to issues higher up. You don't get your commision on the dresses you sell until they get to the store which can take up to 4 months. If you leave the job you won't get the commision you have coming to you. Raises are hard to come by. Computer system is outdated

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The bridal stylists who sell the dresses and ultimately make the company their money should get much better pay and they should recieve their commision even after they have left the job.

    Pros

Great customers, fun work environment. Great co-workers, the bridal events are fun, fun, fun. In spite of my employment ended, I was able to learn a great deal that I will apply to future endeavors.

    Cons

The company is not properly structured. The Store Management has no autonomy. The DM that I worked for would rather place blame on anyone than herself. She lacks integrity in most situations that are not favorable to her. The training is okay, you have to judge that on a store by store scenario. My SM was a great trainer and I learned valuable information from her. The lack of work-life balance is what most managers complain about. There has to be something that can be done. This should seriously be reviewed by someone in a position of authority with the ability to make change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please place an individual in place to actually supervise the DM staff. From what I've experienced the majority of them lack integrity and only look out for themselves. The company overall is pretty good, but that DM level needs serious improvement. Good management has been lost as a result of the lack of professionalism from the DM staff. I had an at home accident and was totally mishandled by the DM to the point that she replaced my position and I was under recovery. This company needs an in-house HR department that knows and exercises true HR law.

    Pros

Fun and rewarding job. It's great getting to help make a girls wedding dreams come true. Holidays off and great hours for a retail job around the end of the year.

    Cons

District manager has given the store manager free reign to do what she pleases creating a terrible work environment and no one for employees to turn to. I am afraid the store will be run into the ground before something is done about it. Salaried employees are required to work at least 45 hrs and pay is minimal. As long as sales numbers are up they don't seem to care about the employees well being or what's going on in the stores. Assistant managers have almost all the actual work duties with managers just "overseeing."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees not just your store managers.

    Senior Management is not motivating

I have been working at Alfred Angelo Bridal

    Pros

Providing the experience for the customers is great. Your team is great.

    Cons

Management is not management. They belittle you and demean you in every possible way when you're trying your best. Even when you do your best there is not recognition. They are not fair to their employees to say the least. They do not appreciate their management or employees for that matter. The pressure for sales is there for sure. However, there is a motivating way to going about doing so. At times it feels like harassment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more positive and supportive. When management asks for help in what you are coaching them on give some type of feedback. Do not harass your employees who are on the front line with the customers. You will lose great employees due to your practices that you are implementing. Practices being treatment and way of talking to your employees. Never ending conference calls. Literally one day of the week the entire day we are on conference calls. Talking about our numbers is not making anything better. We need more time on the floor to coach our employees and train the new ones coming in. We do not have the payroll to even support that. Morale is down, nothing like it was a few years ago.

    Pros

The clientele...nothing like helping a bride find her dream dress!

    Cons

The company and upper management. They only care about numbers and offer no help to you at all when needed. I didn't see our district manager for almost 6 months!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hard look at your upper management. There are people who should go and managers that should still be there. And give your people positive reinforcement! Almost everyone in my store is scared of our DM and hates coming to work. Terrible.

I worked at Alfred Angelo Bridal part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The team I worked with was very nice, and more than willing to help you whenever needed, better than the management.

    Cons

They say this company has phenomenal training, yeah right. I did not last here long because I received no real training, and was thrown into scenarios in which I had no knowledge. Not Cool.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please hire your extra staff BEFORE the upcoming busy season, so you can train them to do the job well. I personally felt lost at every moment working there because I was just put in situations I had no knowledge/answers to. I've never held a position that I was never trained to confidently do the tasks at hand. Also, consider increasing the wages to the stylists/specialists who will not have many chances at making a commission. Your minimum wage + commission is a joke.

    Pros

You learn a lot of sales techniques. You get pretty good training. You get to learn to work with different people. Getting to work special events and bridal shows is always fun.

    Cons

Top management always seems to be hiding things. There is little to hope for in salary increases and growth in the company. If you have the wrong management nothing ever works and there is little the head people will do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get closer to the actual sales associates. They are the ones doing more of the actual work instead of the managers that like to sit in the office. Offer more praise and promote from within. Managers that have been on the sales floor have realistic expectations.

I worked at Alfred Angelo Bridal

    Pros

Co-workers are great. Not typical retail, busy season is after the usual retail Holiday season. Pay is comparable to other retail stores. Bonuses are decent, however not always achievable. This company has been around for over 75 years, one would think they could get it right.

    Cons

The company has potential, however upper management/corporate is struggling to make it work. Lots of changes, its difficult to keep up with the "rules" and there are lots of rules. Management is not able to make decision on their own, DM must always be in involved which makes it difficult to provide the best customer services at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate and upper management should spend more time listening to what the employees have to say rather than focusing on what the customers are putting on Yelp. Employees have been trying to tell upper management for years and it seems like they are listening, but doing the opposite.

Horrible place to work. A career KILLER

I worked at Alfred Angelo Bridal

    Pros

Most co-workers were nice. Everyone was in it together so everyone got along. The best part was the day I left for good.

    Cons

Just a horrible place to work. Everyone is miserable but no one leaves. Figure that one out. I was there for 10 years and never got a promotion or anymore then a 5% raise. Most years I was lucky to get a 2% raise. When I left, I was probably underpaid by at least 30% to my peers. Meanwhile the management kept getting raises and promotions. In this company, everyone was out for themselves. It was CYA all day long. Management was horrible. They were ignorant and self serving. Some management would work maybe 5 hours a day and hand off their work to the lower level people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To Vincent and Michele-Your company sucks. Your absentee ownership style killed this company. Your senior management people are unqualified and ignorant. Open your eyes. Just because they are your friends, it doesn't mean they are qualified to run a company. These people would never survive in a real company so you're fools for overpaying them and catering to them. The best day of my career there was the day I walked out for good.
