I worked at AlixPartners full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Well known in the industry.
    Exposure to high profile clients.
    High level of client interaction.
Receive ownership for work and control work stream.

    Cons

Poor compensation and benefits compared to competitors.
Many legacy senior staff that provide little to no value and do everything to protect their positions, including not accepting responsibility for any shortcomings.
Top level heavy, which creates limited advancement opportunities.
    No formal training.
Performance evaluations tend to be based on favoritism, not actual work related performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow upward feedback of senior staff and replace underperformers.
Increase compensation and benefits to be competitive with the market.

I have been working at AlixPartners full-time

    Pros

Good reputation. Presence of world class industry leaders drives performance. The work is challenging and demanding - but in a way that pushes you forward. No matter how senior an MD or other leader may be, they are willing to roll up their sleeves and dig into the work to get the job done.

    Cons

Lack of defined expectations/development plan, leadership is not transparent, raises/promotions aren't common for women and there is no such thing as work/life balance. The culture is abrasive and leadership lacks understanding of employee needs. If you aren't the type to chum it up with the boys then your career will be short lived at AlixPartners. Favoritism is rampant and top contributors are often overlooked because of it. Institutionalized sexism is strong.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A good reputation can only carry a company so far.

I have been working at AlixPartners full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The company pays very well and there are a number of nice perks. The kitchens are stocked with soda and snacks. Employees technical needs are well taken care of and internal tech support is the best I've experienced.

    Cons

Consultants have a very high opinion of themselves, behave rudely, and don't work well together as a team. There is a lot of unethical behavior occurring. Going out for expensive dinners with several bottles of wine and cocktails and charging it all to the customer seems to be the norm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company needs to grow up.

I have been working at AlixPartners

    Pros

Pros...pay for overtime and better than average bonuses. Alixpartners does a decent job for a firm its size.

    Cons

    3 major challenges:
    1. Senior leadership model embraces a stoggy old school mentality. Leadership appears extremely inflexible when it comes to change. This is a direct contradiction to the firm's most rudimentary principle.
    2. The lack of diversity, especially in leadership. Top two levels of Leadership is comprised mostly of white men.
    3. Alter the assessment & testing phase to incorporate the employee of 2104. Most people don't have 6-8 weeks to interview for a position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Broaden your employee and leadership base and the clients will soon follow.

    I worked at AlixPartners full-time

    Pros

    1. Free Snacks
    2. Free Food
    3. Computer equipment
    4. Corporate Amex Platinum - with that comes great perks when traveling

    Cons

    1. No one team atmosphere, every practice operates differently.
    2. Annual review is a complete joke, you can have a stellar year but if you are not buddy buddy with an MD. Forget about the promotion
    3. Boy's club atmosphere
    4. Work/Life balance doesn't exist

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to the values that Mr. Jay Alix believed in and make it a great company. Have a real formal process to review employee performance. Have an upward feedback program.
