Growing Pains; a lot of managers, few leaders

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee  in  Las Vegas, NV
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Las Vegas, NV

I worked at Allegiant Travel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Sharp co-workers, average pay, relaxed dress code, travel benefits

    Cons

Non-existent work/life balance, top heavy management structure, uncertainty in task assignment, impossible to put out all the fires. Passive aggressive workplace politics,

And one week of total PTO (combined Vacation, Sick and Personal); you're kidding.....right?????

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your company attracts some premier talent (+1), there is some level of autonomy to work assignments (+1), Executive level management is visible to all employees (+1), your b and c-level managers are so hit or miss, at times holier than thou, inconsistent and stepping on throats for their own ascension through the corporate ranks tossed in with a few incompetent "good ol' boys" directors (-100).

Rumor has it that more than 40% of your new hires will not see their one year anniversary; how do you not see something fundamentally wrong with that?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current Employee - FACILITIES/MAINTENANCE ENGINEER  in  Las Vegas, NV
Current Employee - FACILITIES/MAINTENANCE ENGINEER in Las Vegas, NV

I have been working at Allegiant Travel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I would say the receptionist that had been on the job 2 days was very nice. The facility was clean in appearance.

    Cons

Waste of time! Management posted a job for a facilities maintenance engineer. Description "Employee must have proven experience with repairing and installing equipment coupled with general maintenance issues and building operations. ***HVAC and electrical*** knowledge is ***required***". Experience with ***BMS*** software is a plus." However, what they wanted was a handyman. The Facilities manager told me at the interveiw " We don't do work on the HVAC system or electrical." She further stated, We put together chairs and cubicles, a big job is hanging a white board or an ash tray. Furthermore, Must be knowledgeable of camera software, technical competence with the **Mechanical Engineering of Commercial Buildings and Facilities**, knowledge of HVAC.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't post for "mechanical engineer" when you want a "handyman / Janitor". At the interview the job description should match the description in the posting. If you wanted diagnostics only put it in the description.

I have been working at Allegiant Travel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Nice office.and living in Las Vegas is cool. Allegiant has a quirky way of doing things which makes each day different..

    Cons

Below industry standards for pay and benefits even though they are one of the most profitable airlines in the US. The company goes "cheap" with everything. The software is prehistoric.
Middle management is deaf and blind which results in chronic understaffing and high turnover

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allegiant is making good profits, share more of the wealth with the employees that make this possible.

I have been working at Allegiant Travel

    Pros

Travel benefits on other airlines (if full time)
    Some good people
    Profitable company in difficult economy
    Plenty of parking for employees

    Cons

As an employee you are of little value (but they don't try to hide it)
Unwilling to invest in any sort of culture
Some extremely useless employees to deal with

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in employees, the payoff will be worth it. Invest in talent, focus now and then on keeping them there.
