Senior Manager (7E) (Current Employee)

I have been working at Allergan full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThey offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits package, and really great growth opportunities within the organization.

ConsHave been seeing alot of restructuring within the organization over the last couple of years so strategic layoffs have unfortunately followed.

Good Place to Work, Overall

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Irvine, CA

I worked at Allergan full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat place to work for leased (i.e., temporary) employees; they treat you just as well (if not better) than the "permanent" employees. Pretty good benefits, including a GREAT tuition reimbursement program. Decent wage/salary compensation. Good work-life balance overall. In general, there's pretty good synergy within departments, and the managers work just as hard, if not harder, than the subordinates (can't say that for all the employers I've had). The Irvine facility itself is great, with many perks (gym, playing fields, a cafeteria that actually serves decent food) and well-located, logistically. The turnover rate (one of the best indicators of a company's overall health/functioning) was very good (i.e., low), at least when I was there (2007-2010). In general, being able to say you work for Allergan carries a degree of prestige (if that's important to you).

ConsDepending upon your position, the workload can alternate between "insanity" and "near-complete boredom" (I suppose that's true for a lot of jobs, though). Fairly frequent complaining about micro-management occurring. From what I've gathered, the actual pay is a bit less than other bio-pharm companies.

I have been at Allergan for less than a year and it has been a mostly great experience.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Allergan full-time for less than a year

ProsIt's a great opportunity to work with very talented people in an atmosphere that encourages growth. They do a great job at recruiting people who are a pleasure to be around.

ConsAs with most larger companies, there is a lot of bureaucracy, a collection of overly complicated systems, and sometimes inefficient communication. The number of meetings may be a hindrance to productivity.

Advice to Senior ManagementVery pleased with management in my group.

Solid Company to work for with excellent benefits

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)
Santa Barbara, CA

I worked at Allergan full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThe benefits~ health insurance, 401K, education reimbursement were extremely competitive
Allergan is a huge global medical device company with a great reputation and for someone right out of college, its a nice place to start out and learn about the corporate culture.

ConsThe office in Santa Barbra is disconnected from the main headquarters in Irvine and there is limited opportunity for growth. Many departments are being shut down at that office.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement is typically concerned about the budget and the immediate bottom line from their superiors. Opportunities for growth and choosing different careers within the company are not easily accessible.

Great company if you come in at the top; little upward mobility but tons of experience available

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Irvine, CA

I have been working at Allergan full-time for more than a year

ProsAllergan runs very lean; therefore, if you want a lot of valuable experience, you can get it here. Really great work-life balance. This company is very conservative and has a lot of leaders with integrity.

ConsNo room for upward mobility.

I have been working at Allergan as a contractor for more than a year

ProsGreat work environment, the staff and employees are very kind and professional. Clean working environment with great benefits.

Conssome times you work on call, not a lot of room for error. I felt as a contract worker I didn't have the privilege the Allergan employees had. Was trained to complete all access of the job only to be dumped to hire a new employee.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe Management had a lot on their hands, but focus should not be taken off the employees. Or certain cases should be made to work better with an employee could become a part of the Allergan team.
