I have been working at Allergan full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The legal department has a great culture where young attorneys are given important projects and expected to manage them with little oversight.

    Cons

In recent years the company became more procedure oriented and less dynamic. Tendency is to stick with status quo because many people have been here so long and don't want to rock the boat.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider ways to break down unnecessary process and reward smart risk-taking behavior.

    Pros

They pay you enough to not want to leave.

    Active culture outside of work.

    Cons

Bureaucracy beyond belief. VP+ count their money and have little clue what's going on beyond Pyott's goals.

Directors are playing power games amongst themselves to no avail.

Workers put their heads down and collect their $100k.

I have been working at Allergan

    Pros

Biggest pharm. company in Socal - they have buildings that take up an entire lot! Lots of perks such as cafeteria, gym, great view, rich people walking everywhere. Very very nice security guards though.

    Cons

You are nothing but a number unless you're upper management. No personal 1 on 1, but rather anonymity in work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more 1 on 1 to the lower end of the workers.

    I worked at Allergan

    Pros

Excellent pay for the work performed. Great facilities and benefits. Great people to have on your teams. Manufacturing in Costa Rica makes company travel a bit more exciting.

    Cons

Bonuses are paid on poor metrics. Paid out on completion dates not if the product actually works. This sends the wrong message to the whole corporation. Lots of long term employees that resist changes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change metrics for how employees are rewarded for not only keeping projects on task but that they actually work as intended

    Pros

Great benefits. Amazing opportunities and chances for career development. Wonderful people throughout the company. Innovation and efficiency is encouraged and rewarded. Diversity of the company allows for endless career development. Interdepartmental cooperation and communication is always an open forum. Everyone really does try to work together to reach the best outcome. Individual and team success are both valued.

    Cons

All large companies have red tape that you must try to get through to make a change. Lack of transparency in some aspects involving sensitive information.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep striving for innovation and process improvement.

I have been working at Allergan full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Employees are smart and usually have good number of years of experience working in the same industry or in their profession.

Most of them have MBAs or a certain type of certification (e.g. CISSP)

Regardless, there is a lot of room for growth for each individual working in here (endless opportunities).

Also, employees are very respectful of each other; haven't encountered any kind of rudeness during my stay.

The company encourages dynamic thinking yet careful deployment of ideas.

Management is very much aligned in meeting the corporate goal. This translates to a clearer objective of the tasks being asked of subordinates.

Great work-life balance esp for those with families.

    Cons

Job promotion comes slow in some department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We know you do but it won't hurt to reiterate.... Please take good care of your employees. The simple ways of appreciation puts a pack of encouragement to the Allergan team.

    Cons

No excitement, very corporate top-down management. Currently downsizing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing really wrong. This company works well for people who are looking for this type of job.
