    COMPANY IS OK

    Electrical Engineer (Current Employee)
    Magna, UT

ProsThe company has fairly good benefits but the medical costs are quite steep for a large company. I went to work here for the medical benefits during this crappy time of Obama care that's make heath care unaffordable.

ConsAfter so many layoffs, the moral is low and the management don't seem to get to excited about much. the work can be boring at times since they do everything over and over again. Tough to compete against the older people that have been there for a while so be prepared to eat bread crumbs fora while.

Advice to Senior ManagementTalk to your employees. take them to lunch when they hire on. Make them feel like they are valuable and promote good moral.

Was awesome when I started; then corporate showed up

    Mission Assurance Engineer (Former Employee)

ProsSpace Systems is interesting work, always changing and the worker bees were great

ConsSmaller locations get no viability from corporate. Seems like corporate has no heart at all.

Advice to Senior ManagementCan happen, but not a sure thing

Good pay and benefits, difficult to move up.

    Supervisor (Former Employee)
    Roanoke, VA

ProsGood management pay and raises. Had a productive relationship with the labor union on site. Solid effort toward profit enhancement led to monetary gains for all members of management.

ConsDifficult to move up in management unless related to or friends with members of upper management. Friends and family will move up quickly; most others will not. Morale killer.

    Good company with average benefits.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsExtremely safety conscious. Try to do the best by their employees. Slow to hire, slow to fire.

ConsReally struggling implementing a lean culture.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeeds to figure out what truely adds value to the organization. Eliminate road blocks / systems that require effort to maintain and ultimately does not provide any benfits. Work with employees to show what a successful day should look and feel like.

    OK

    Systems Analyst (Former Employee)
    Corona, CA

ProsThey make some great products and can be challenging.

ConsThey buy out companies and turn them over. Our location was shut down. They are a little too big now to care about their employees on a personal level. Has become very corporate and political.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't forget the little people who keep the company alive.

ATK is results focused, not people oriented

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Independence, MO

ProsATK is action oriented, results focused, and there are opportunities for hard-charging go-getters. At multiple locations ATK has very good Operations leaders (some of the best I've ever seen).

ConsATK has ittle to no career development or training. Leadership is ruthless when it comes to slashing costs / people, there is rampant cronyism. Because of the excessive levels of leadership and business group and division levels, ATK is highly political and the leaders spend more time searching for relevance than adding value. In fact, their constant quest for relevance creates huge amounts of non-value added work for the many levels below them.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend more time carving out dead wood in leadership, rather than focusing on the lowest-paid employees. Eliminate at least 4 levels of leadership. This will result in huge gains (tangible and intangible) for ATK.

Use to be a technology driven enterprise

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsOk benefits. Still hires interns.

ConsCompany focus went from making high tech spacecrafts to producing cheap Chinese manufactured sporting goods.
    Limited carrer opportunities.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdvice to the board: vote out the CEO and his cronies, refocus on product development and technology.

Good company when I first started, but too much instability now.

    Human Resources (Former Employee)
    Minneapolis, MN

ProsBenefits are decent, pay is okay.

ConsNot many career advancing opportunities. Too much bureaucracy.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the employees, they often have a lot of good information to give. Don't micromanage.

Good pay, but some of the business lines are in trouble financially

Lead Design and Analysis Engineer (Former Employee)
    Brigham City, UT

ProsGreat pay. I made more money here than anywhere else I ever worked. Benefits are good. Work was interesting and exciting until Obama cancelled the manned space program and the shuttle retired

ConsLayoffs are part of the business due to high dependence on government projects. The Promontory plant, sometimes listed as being in Brigham City, is a long commute from any housing. The nearest town (600 people) is 23 miles a way. Roads are good and fast, but patrolled by police

Advice to Senior ManagementStop fooling yourself and your employees. Be realistic about opportunities in the space program

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
