    Great people. Too political.

    Technician (Former Employee) Huntsville, AL

ProsGreat pay and benefits. Work environment was the best ever.

ConsMany of the managers ignored the superior performers and rewarded the "dead wood"!

Advice to Senior ManagementHold managers accountable and ask them to think outside the box for additional projects that may save people's jobs.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Beltsville, MD

    ProsInteresting product line, high quality

ConsFeast or famine as far as work goes

Advice to Senior ManagementAn improved planning as to build and product support, Just in Time manufacturing is nice but costly in time when their is an issue.

ATK is a good company to work for, but be prepared for continual changes.

    Design Engineering (Current Employee)

ProsTechnically challenging work that pushes the envelope for shock hardening and extreme temperature operation. Your work helps create products that help to defend our country or protect our troops. 401k plan matches all of first 3% contributed and 1/2 of next 3% contributed. In addition to the 401k, the company kicks in up to 4% as a non-elective contribution based on age and years of service. Pay raises are decent.

ConsMoving up in your career is a slow process. Pension plan ended in 2013 for all new hires going forward. Benefits are slowly eroding over time.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a look at the talented people within the company and grow them. Hire from within.

Disjointed, like many companies this size, but overall a good place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsAwesome manager to work for and with
Awesome IT folks to work with
    Change is encouraged
"right people, right time, right job" or something like that

ConsStuck in the dark ages in some ways
CIO so stuck on security, forgets that we need access and hardware to get our jobs done.
    Work load is unbalanced.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet your head our of the clouds and listen to the workerbees. Quarterly All Hands are a waste of everyone's time. Just send us your little video update so we can get back to work, because I like to see my family every once in awhile. Or better yet, lets move towards telecommuting. We're spread all over the country anyway. And get a CIO with common sense.

Good company, great people, but Defense industry outlook is pretty bleak

Mission Assurance Engineer (Former Employee) Plymouth, MN

ProsTop-notch engineers, exciting projects, good support from managers, lean focus throughout organization. Decent work/life balance (9/80 schedule: every-other-Friday off; flex hours). Good pay, benefits.

ConsConstant stress and "re-org fatigue" due to on-going realignment within the Defense Group. Long-term outlook for the group is not too great at the moment (much better for the Sporting Group and Aerospace Group).

Advice to Senior ManagementMore two-way communication (less one-way/directive); more support for continuous improvement activities.

    HR Generalist (Current Employee)

ProsGood benefits and ability to progress in job. Helpful for job progression if available to relocate

ConsCan be slow to respond to business needs. Cumbersome corporate policies and proceedures

It was great to work on our country's defense systems

Operator Level1 (Former Employee) Magna, UT

ProsThe pride in our workmanship was great. The wages were great and it was close by home. Benefits were pretty cheap and there was always overtime.Lots of cross training if you wanted to learn a new cell. Lots of great wildlife on plant, saw deer everyday.

ConsManagement and wage roll were always seeing each other as the enemy. One never trusted the other so there was always constant stress.

Advice to Senior ManagementMaybe see what is really bugging some one deep down when they are having problems on the job and offer them help if you can. Sometimes just caring about someone goes a long ways.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
