I worked at AlliedBarton full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Great people to work with

    Cons

Some of the worst insurance available with over 60,000 employees you would think that they would get a better rate. Almost all of your benefits are at the discretion of the client, so depending upon where you work you may get sick time, personal time and pay raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When an Account manager fails to report a supervisor for sexual harassment three different times, fire them don't make excuses for them. When the same account manager fires a supervisor for not counseling an employee who's thinking of quitting to stay with the company, but then has a supervisor tell them they are thinking of leaving for another Security Company and the Account Manager only says "you'll be missed." Maybe they need Counseled.

    Not good

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    I worked at AlliedBarton

    Pros

Always hiring if you need a job in the short term. Some of the locations can be good depending on the people.

    Cons

It is a contract position so if you get a bad project manager he will always side with the contractors. You are easily replaceable.

A lazy company when it comes to supporting its staff

Former Employee - Security Officer, Lead FTO

I worked at AlliedBarton full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There are no work perks at Allied. The perks you do get are the same perks you find at any entry level employer just with less promotional opportunity. The coworkers and supervisors I had were in the majority great with a few bad bad apples.

    Cons

Everything from meager pay, meager benefits, lackey management with powertrips, a corporation masquerading as caring towards and supportive towards its staff and veterans but is not true, scheduling nightmares often, and zero feasible training offered but the online training is treated like the golden solution to everything; yet, I haven't used any of it once.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management does not listen especially those in the corporate office, so i offer my advice to the applicant.... put your energy and efforts into applying for a company that at lest recognizes you exist with support of any kind.

I worked at AlliedBarton full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You can get decent experience in a lot of aspects in the security field
They always seem to be hiring

    Cons

There is limited room for growth despite the interview pitch
Raises are non-existent without a promotion, which are also rare
Home office support is lacking and often not actually supportive
Upper management cares about only the bottom line and not those making their money for them

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The officers working at your sites are the reason you get your salary. Don't ignore them and belittle them.

I have been working at AlliedBarton full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    There are none to report.

    Cons

The security business, regardless of which company or what they tell you, is nothing more than a glorified temp. agency. They tell you when, where, but never why you will be assigned. The pay is terrible and never any benefits. Middle mgmt. is a revolving door because quota's can/t be met, hours are inhuman and the choices of mgmt. are suspicious because they couldn't hold a similar job in the corporate world. Security companies will hire almost anyone to stand like a bump-on-a-log for up to 12 hours and look like you know something. Training is adequate but don't ever attempt to defend yourself because the company will bail-on-you. I know first hand of the above information as I've been in both Law Enforcement and Security for many many years. My advice, work at a restaurant if you want part time or full time employment until you discover what you want to be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do as you all do and get your fill of security management and then get a real job.

    Pros

Good pay compared to other companies. Full time hours. Flexible hours depending on the site you will work at.

    Cons

Little room for advancement. Union does not honor its own agreements. Asked to violate law by supervisors several times.

Current Employee - Unarmed Security Guard in Pittsburgh, PA
Current Employee - Unarmed Security Guard in Pittsburgh, PA

I have been working at AlliedBarton full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Can get full or part time work. Willing to work around your home life....to a point. Uniforms are decent (they ought to be for a $200 payroll deduction). Some nice clients and nice online training. Employee discounts with other companies.

    Cons

Management is slow to respond. Many fellow employees have had pay issues (not getting paid for the hours worked). No sick leave, no paid holidays, and the benefits leave much to be desired. Losing many contracts makes you fear for your job. Good luck moving up. Most managers care about themselves only.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be accountable and take care of your employees and contracts. Better time management and communication.
