More difficult since the last merger

Finance Manager (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Allscripts

ProsI enjoy the team that I work with and the abilities they present. There are still some people that care more about the clients and other members of the compay more than the dollar at the end of the day.

ConsThere needs to be more team building and not just talking about it but putting realistic action behind it.

Some pluses, some minuses

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL

I worked at Allscripts

ProsDynamic culture, hands-off management style. I frequently felt that my opinions and my work was valued. Flexible hours and telecommuting were encouraged.

ConsMuch churn, lack of follow-through by management. Projects were often started and then died due to lack of resources being assigned. Too many rapidly changing priorities for limited staff. Lack of willingness to invest in resources to get the job done.

Advice to Senior ManagementEveryone needs some downtime. You can't expect someone to be the sole resource in a particular area and be on call 24x7x365. Frugality is important in managing a company, but there's a difference between being frugal and being cheap.

Up until they started outsourcing many jobs, I was generally satisfied with my positions. Lots of good employeed

Administrative Assistance (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at Allscripts

ProsHealth insurance premiums were kept quite reasonable and reviews and increases seemed reasonable and fair early on. There was a focus on teamwork and collaboration.

ConsOver the years there were many changes in senior leadership that seemed to result in more politics, favoritism, rediculous signing bonuses, and "friends of the new guys" being added to the staff. I think there were about 6 new CEO's in as many years. Ultimately they started outsourcing jobs and I am told that some people had to train their replacements in INDIA in order to get their severance package.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep jobs in the US.

Company in transition,

Desktop PC Support (Former Employee)
Mountain View, CA

I worked at Allscripts

ProsOpen to suggestions there was a lack of new updated pc technologies.

ConsYou are torn between technical, management, and healthcare. The promotion to management is not good when your ''lop sided''. There is a need to train pc technicians on hospital procedures, areas of no street clothing, no smoking and silence.

With each merge (Misys -> Allscripts -> Eclipsys) it gets worse while the CEO gets rich

Software Architecte (Current Employee)
Raleigh, NC

I have been working at Allscripts

ProsThe product team I work with is great and very talented.
The benefits are above normal (23 pto days, good 401k match, etc)
Free soda in SOME offices, just not mine

ConsLets be blunt, I have been w/ the company through the past 2 mergers. With each merger the moral goes down, the excitement level goes down and the will to do a 'great job' goes down. However, with each merger the CEO and his lackeys accumulate more and more wealth.

If you enjoy working with off shore teams then this may be a great place for you to work. The new COO (who is trying to run a 6000 employee company like her former 100,000 employee companies) is trying get the onshore/offshore ratio to be 50/50. If you are in development you will find that more then 50% of your peers will be either in India or Ukraine.

If you enjoy the fact that the company is making more money then ever yet is cutting its budgets and not allowing exiting positions to be back filled this may be a great company for you.

If you enjoy the idea that each building/team has to adhere to different rules this may be the place for you.

If you enjoy working on legacy software (many of the products are 15+ years old) with no ability to make any significant technology improvements this may be the place for you.

If you enjoy working for a 'sales company' who just happens to make software, not a 'software company' with a sales force this may be the place for you. Working for a sales company means that if a sales person can sell the feature you MUST build it... PERIOD

if you enjoy working for technology company that does not have a CIO/CTO then this may be the place for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementBefore you decide to merge with the next company try fixing the company we have.
Figure out what the company is trying to do. You sell the company as a 'connected community of solutions' but the vast majority of our products do not integrate or even communicate.
You say that communication is the key to our success yet the only communication we get is to tell us to work harder.

Great Mission

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Allscripts

ProsImproving healthcare thru technology is not just a wonderful business opportunity, but allows Allscripts employees a chance to feel like they are part of the solution.

ConsIn a company of 5,500 employees, some are bound to be overlooked. Unfortunately, most have been overlooked for a while and it is starting to show. Management has plans to turn things around. If they follow thru and get feedback along the way, Allscripts could get back on course to satisfying their employees' needs.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure your actions and decisions emulate your promises to employees. Investigate all employee types and their needs. Telling the "worker bees" that they're what keeps the company moving forward, then taking away bonuses gives the wrong impression to those staff. So does revoking gym membership discounts for smoking cessation assistance to non-smokers.
