I have been working at Allscripts full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Great Colleagues
    Some great team managers

    Cons

    Lousy execs
    Treating workers as cattle
No vision, trying to ape Cerner as a lot of the execs are former Cerner employee
No bonus even if you and your team meets targets, they will find some way to nix it
No extra benefit for working weekends or weeknights
Expected to work 48-50hrs minimum, get called out if you put in 'only' 40hrs
Talented & skilled employees leaving in droves
A lot of newbies joining, as a stepping stone
Subpar pay rate - except for execs who gets good stock units to make up for lower pay
Restructuring themselves to the ground - management message is if you are here for more than 2yrs leave so we can bring in cheap newbs that might not know any better
Travel for client is considered personal time, and works against your for utilized time
Nickel & Dimes you on expenses instead of being per diem, although they typically collect from client on per diem basis
Coach class even on international travel
Management spends 10 hours doing busy work so that they can say they saved 1 hr for the company
Hires global rejects, that drives customer satisfaction down
Future for North America employees is uncertain, or making policy such that many are quitting
Lot of lip service and busy work
Unless you are VP level, you have no real authority to do anything
    Cheap, Cheap, Cheap. Taco Bell.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop talking your BS, and actually do some work
Take a management course on how to be effective leaders
Stop with the nickel & dime
    Respect your employees
Promote collaboration instead of working in silos with a CYA and me, mine attitude
Communicate, instead of providing a random change in policy from the blue that drastically affects everyone
Stop promoting a culture of fear and micro-management, instead hire and retain talents who takes initiative and can succeed and reward accordingly

I have been working at Allscripts full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    • Work from home (although new CEO discourages this because he must think we’re kids?)
    • Decent benefits
    • Growing technology market - Health Information Technology
    • A change to meet "some" good people
    • Ability to foster great client relationships

    Cons

    • This company is only concerned with the bottom line - that means sell...sell..sell, cut backs & terminations, unless you're in good with the powers that be!
    • Neglectful of employees needs & concerns aka, "who cares? you have a job...don't you?
    • Constant termination of US employees and hiring of Indian employees - yes, off-shoring!
    • Dilbert-style management - top-heavy & incompetent!
    • Low-balling salaries - some jobs don't even have a job description...so they pay what they want to pay you - geographical location is not applicable!
    • No accountability & responsibility - everyone passes the buck! Client issues get treated like “hot potatoes!”
    • No training, read some articles if you have time. But why train, it won't get you anywhere!
    • Too much internal bickering between departments & teams
    • Clients are showing their frustration with the lack of initiative & knowledge, poor work ethic and communication barriers of the Indian support personnel - they now ask for "US Only Support!'
    • Decreased moral - Support aka Call Center employees are treated like “sweatshop workers”…more, more, more…metrics is all they care about!
    • Quantity vs. Quality should be there motto - where’s the “Wow” experience Allscripts always refers to?
    • Sub-standard product - need better programmers and developers to make these products work, instead of finding Band-Aid fixes!
    • Tremendous amount of turnover – due both to the constant termination of employees, people quitting out of frustration and those seeking better employment opportunities!
    • People in your own office don't talk to you - they just look past you. Allscripts needs diversity training!
    • Completely stressful environment - lazy staff, unconcerned management, and you have to obviously pull teeth to get to get either to do something!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Listen to your people - your workers, who are on the front line are taking one or two...many, for the team! The clients are speaking also, but you're not listening.
    2. Clean house from the top, down - your managers are a joke!
    3. Invest in your employees - they'll be good to you if you're good to them - the morale dictates that you obviously have failed at this by your lack of concern for your staff.
    4. Stop all the off shoring - your greed is starting to show!
    5. Develop a better hiring practice - a whole group of people came in w/no direction or leadership, they weren't even immediately given job titles/descriptions & salaries!
    6. Talk the talk & walk the walk...you expect a lot from your employees, it's only natural that they have expectations too - don't hush them & shoot them down!

    Cons

Jobs & resources sent to India.
Money-making for upper management is the primary goal. Staff & clients pay the price.
Suggestions & concerns from staff & clients are ignored.
Benefits for staff are being cut while salaries for upper management continue to rise & jobs continue to be sent to India.
    Insufficient staff training.

The path forward is a ???

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    I worked at Allscripts

    Pros

Healthcare IT is a great, great market - Allscripts has a big client base (a good thing), but it is on many, many (40+) different applications (a challenging thing).

    Cons

There is a tremendous amount of turnover at all levels of the organization - the path forward for products and people is not clear. Dissatisfaction rating is not reflective of how I felt when I was there - it is reflective of what I hear from people who are there now. Hopefully this can be turned around.

Good place to pick up some new skills and languages

    Cons

    Many incompetent engineering managers
Too many in upper management (everyone is a VP)
    Unprofessional behavior
    Sloppy coding practices

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Cut the management fat
    Hire better people

I worked at Allscripts full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Salary was high to supplement the poor work you have to do.

    Cons

A much divided company. There are multiple divisions and these divisions act like separate companies. They won't hire within so don't look to transfer to a different department. Your manager is your worst enemy....Completely stressful, lazy staff, and you have to obviously pull teeth to get them to do something. What a waste...Management sucks completely.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of your old management and get some real experienced professionals who enjoy working. Everyone who works remotely is just as lazy and will certainly not support their staff. You are ruining your company. As for your clients, they are the worst.

I worked at Allscripts full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

nothing at all. company stinks. management stinks. employees stink. tenure means you are not a good employee. you are still at the company because you are a crook and someone is keeping you in the company because you and them are crooks.

    Cons

professional services knowledge is below zero specially in the Eclipsys side. No professionalism. consultants think they are traveling weekly on vacation not work. clients employees doing all the work and the eclipsys consultant sitting playing doing their personal stuff. no knowledge, no professionalism, if you are a crook then you still have your job with eclipsys.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean up the company and fire all the old gang from the Eclipsys side. They are the reason why this company stinks and loosing market share to everybody. I have worked on both side, the Eclipsys side as an employee and on the client side as a client consultant and my experience on both side with eclipsys consultants, managers, directors stink.

I worked at Allscripts full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The only pro is it's has healthcare application

    Cons

This company sucks as the employees are busy doing the internal politics than anything else. The company has India development center - and as it sounds - everyone is totally dependent upon it. The discrimination toward the Asian looking people/accent is very common here and no good employees remain there anymore. Mr. Black even tells employees to leave as it seems like all the company wants is get rid of employee to save cost but they are so stupid because the only employees they will have left there will be incompetent ones as the talented people leave cause they can't hear the racist and abusive treatment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much politics is not good and just wait there are many people working in their basement to compete with you - it just matter of time.

Current Employee - Project Manager in Burlington, MA

I have been working at Allscripts full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Good benefits and stock options

    Cons

Lack of Management accountability and training. C suite living large even the ones that have been terminated, while hard working people that get the SFM product out in general release get barely a pay raise and no bonus for the past year. Expectation is that there is no work life balance work, work, work but no appreciation for this. Very clicky in the Burlington, MA office. If you are part of the click you are fine by the way the click does not have knowledgable hard working people in it, but they are likable. Lack of domain experience and the one that has it is ignored. The product is going to go down the tubes once users actually get on the product.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get out of the clouds and really see what is going on in the office. Start appreciating the staff that does work and has a clue. Get rid of the ones that are just there and do not work.
