I have been working at Allscripts as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    -Fast paced work environment
-Some corporate veterans with lots of experience and able to give sound advice
-Great location and easy access to parking

    Cons

    -"More-with-less" culture developing
-Odd politics between some upper management
    -Promotions seem slow
    -Formal reviews are lacking
-Multitasking is stressed to the point that inefficient/ineffective work flow results

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In order to avoid harming the customers and employees, avoid corporate-political banter, be willing to spread the work load equally (i.e. hire/train more people), and be willing to pay for effective/efficient labor (i.e. "you get what you pay for").

I have been working at Allscripts full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Quality peers for the most part with a good understanding of the product that they support as well as a good knowledge base. Benefits are good and the cost of benefits used to be good. PTO benefits not bad.

    Cons

Cost of medical benefits has increased substantially in 2014, including deductibles, copays, rx copays. Amount of raise from annual review may cover the increased cost of healthcare, which will make it a wash. Promotions seem limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Maintain open lines of communication.

    Pros

    Good people to work with.

    Cons

Disconnect through the ranks in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management was a little disconnected from the people who were client facing and that was hard to relay what needed to be done as a company.

I have been working at Allscripts full-time

    Pros

Over all the company is a good place to work. The salary and benefits package are competitive. Many people work remote, but there's a movement to reduce that for Development resources. The company has grown significantly in recent years and has a good long term strategy.

    Cons

The CIO started in December 2012 and it appears that he is reorganizing the company to the way his previous company was structured. This is causing some leadership turnover and confusion. Just because your Director/VP/SVP changes, doesn't mean everyone knows about it. Job function changes are not defined and interdepartmental processes are weak.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase communications as to 'who is doing what'. This goes beyond the VP level, 'which team is responsible for supporting which product?' 'How do I contact them?' Processes and website(s) are needed to find information internally and to get things done. Also too many people have direct contact with clients. Who Owns the Client? (today, multiple groups say 'I do'). It's a good company, we just need to work together better.

    Pros

    Good Benefits, insurance and 401k

    Cons

    Current Management, Job Security, Outsourcing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work was challenging, fast paced, always changing with lots to learn in a good friendly workplace. Compensation was low in comparison but there are good benefits and a matching 401k. The workplace changed with all the mergers which is unfortunate. The current top management strategy is to downsize offices nationally and centralize to only a few. Hard to keep your moral up when you see more than half of the offices across the country being closed down with massive amounts of valuable employees with 10 to 20+ years of tenure being layed off and only a few given the opportunity to relocate. The current top management looks down on remote jobs (which is opposite of what it used to be). Job security is very low plus lots of jobs being outsourced to India.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Awesome people to work with. Good amount of vacation days given and somewhat of a decent salary.

    Cons

Company lost direction by outsourcing overseas and buying other companies. Got way too big and the clients suffered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more information to your employees on how the company is doing.

I have been working at Allscripts full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

They are flexible in terms of where you work, and the healthcare benefits are probably the best I've ever seen.

    Cons

No bonus potential for most employees. Also the internal processes of the company are very poor. The company has grown via acquisition, so there are two answers for any question you ask...there's no one version of the truth. There also doesn't seem to be a willingness by management to fix this issue

    Positive Outlook
