I have been working at Alsco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Steady work, timely pay, decent 401k. Sorry i cant come up with anything else to say about alsco that is positive.

    Cons

No chance for advancement. poor management. under staffing. Low moral. these problems are probably location specific.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider running a fully staffed maintenance department. Actually motivate employees with rewards instead of threats of punishment.

I have been working at Alsco full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The starting pay was fine. It's a national company, the general manager has aloy if autonomy from the parent group

    Cons

There was not any consistancy on what was able to be sold. Lots of preferential treatment not based on merit

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All managemebt should be on the same page. There should be guidelines on who is really in charge

I have been working at Alsco full-time

    Pros

    - Pay was okay
    - Autonomy to work with other managers

    Cons

    - They don't give you time to do your job - constant monitoring of your sales number (quota)
    - Constant quarrels with customers because service department failure to perform their tasks
    - Lazy Regional sales manager - never available to coach or train employees when need it.
    - To each his own environment
    - Fears competition within sales consultant in the same company - Sales consultants willing to cheat colleagues to make sales.
    - Not a good environment for a recent college grad or young guy - almost every one is over the age of 40
    - Below average work environment climate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recent college grads, if you just want a job to make money then Alsco is not a bad place exclude the constant stress of thinking you'd loose your job tomorrow. Other than that, I do not recommend it.

I worked at Alsco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very stable company. Conservative (financially) to a fault. They pay in advance which is different. Good location.

    Cons

NO training NO advancements 1% pay raises Expensive (by comp) health care. The company could run without IT and they tell you that too. They are still on XP and dont even have any form of central control

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't think that upper management knows how much money, time and effort is wasted trying to keep IT expenses down. The IT SR manager needs to be fired. He is driving good people away.

I have been working at Alsco full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Commissions can be very large; never had any difficulty being paid for what I sold (no game playing by management)

    Cons

this is a "what have you done for me lately" job, management in my office was rude and disinterested in employees; hard to get the tools you would like to do your job better; the sales office had one computer for 5 salespeople

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Improve leadership in sales function

    I worked at Alsco

    Pros

Background in the linen industry or restaurant industry is gained. Beyond that unless you are willing to relocate to their choice of any where in the country you will really not be moving upwards.

    Cons

Poor communication, sales commissions depends on 8-12 week pay out on products sold. Average item revenue for company weekly $2-3.00 not a lot to build up commissions with.

I have been working at Alsco

    Pros

A Stable company that will provide long term job security. It does not take much to become a high performer. Very relaxed with light workloads and people are generally nice. A great place to work if you want to punch a clock and keep it as an eight to five gig.

    Cons

A high deductable, self insured medical and dental plan is the only option and it is prohibitively expensive for non-executive employees with families. Poor overall benefits package with old antiquated processes and systems. Old school family leadership that leads to nepotisms, and a lack of opportunity that can be downright hostile. Education, pedigree, or job performance is not valued as much as tenure. Bottom line, it’s a good job but does not provide any challenges, opportunities for growth or advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get with the times!! If you fail to adapt you will not have an adequate succession plan. If you want talented leaders in the pipeline you are going to have to sac-up and change or pay for it. Otherwise Alsco will continue to only build marginal shareholder wealth and will continue to be a mediocre company that will never become anything great among its peers.

I have been working at Alsco

    Pros

The best reason is that your on your own schedule. no one looking over your shoulder all day, you take care of the customer and they will take care of you. ( even tho the company is making it harder and harder to do this.

    Cons

Lack of comunacation between management and customes and drivers. changing policies and rules to suit them and thinking about employees ans customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop worrying about bonuses and bottom line, and take care of the customers, stop raising there prices without warning and doing it for no reason, even to the point of violating the contract. Stop adding in new charges and raising them at will. and most important stop making them wait for thier linen, by running enough linen so that there isn't any shortage. there is NO reason for drivers to wait for the days linen to be produced, you knew what was needed for each driver 5-7 days in advance.
The old way of trying to cut expences to the bare bone doen"t work anymore, grow customers, inprove customer satisfaction and the profits will grow. Also get back to quality, We focus to much on getting the work out and don't pay attention to quailty. and for gods sake get out of the paper and restroom business. lets do linen and do it right for a change.
