I have been working at Amazon.com

    Pros

Great schedule, lots of time off, the pay is decent after you have been there a while.

    Cons

The work is monotonous and not very intellectually stimulating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promotions are very competitive and not very transparent.

I have been working at Amazon.com

    Pros

Large company with the opportunity to change teams and learn something new. Compensation isn't bad as long as your lucky enough to shares and fortune to sell them at the right time.

    Cons

Management or lack of can be extremely detrimental. Transferring to another team is more often than not the only way to be promoted. On call to the point of killing any work-life balance.

I have been working at Amazon.com full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Amazon provides amazing benefits. They provide very generous time off policies and a week of paid vacation within the first year. You will get feedback directly from customers about your performance.

    Cons

The cons are specifically that direct feedback from customers. There are no other metrics for evaluating an customer service agents performance. The customer reviews and average handle time for calls are all there is. You will be judged by the customers and if you are unable to go outside of the Amazon policy on something, basically, something you cannot change, Amazon will find fault in you for it. They don't set negative reviews at zero, but it is impossible to meet the standards without going against the very well defined company policy. IF you transfer to a supervisor, that supervisor will go outside of the policy and STILL allow you to get the negative review for the customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management, I implore you to review the negative responses customers give. You can get a negative response for a contact that you didn't actually speak to, such as a disconnected chat, you can get a negative response for not giving someone free money to purchase an item just because they say that they can't afford it, people that work the system to get the most free things out of Amazon can write you a negative review just because someone hasn't looked at their account. It is VERY important that the customers are happy, but you cannot make all of the customers happy.

Nonstop work to be had at Amazon but if you have a supportive manager it is both fun and fulfilling.

I have been working at Amazon.com

    Pros

Lots of cross group work. Code packages are open for everyone to access.

    Cons

Leadership doesnt have a clear vision. There is a lot of support for grassroots innovation only to be killed by someone higher up.

    I worked at Amazon.com full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - Great Salary
    - Many events, groups, etc. to work in
    - Great benefits
    - Everyone knows who you work for
    - Many learning opportunities in regards to scale and your job as a whole generally
    - Generally easy to move within the company

    Cons

    - Expect to be working 50 hours minimum... on a slow week
    - When they say you can work as many hours as you want, as long as you get the work done... they give you 60-80 hours worth of work for that week... unless you are a genious... good luck getting it done
    - Very anti-conservative / anti-Christian environment... was given grief for being both many times... including by my manager
    - Depending on which org you land into, it can be very political... make friends quickly in high places.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Clear out anyone who is not allowing those of *all* faiths, beliefs, etc. to be apart of the company
    - Stop killing your workers with massive hours as a means of "frugality" aka frupidity.

    I worked at Amazon.com

    Pros

A leader, a fast paced, innovative high hitter. Great for the CV and for experience. Totally customer focussed which is genuine and propagates through all levels.

    Cons

None of the company values truly focus on the employee. They just don't care. The remuneration is complex and not as rewarding as the competition. There is a high staff turnover because of these factors which ultimately cost the company more money!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please remember - happy employees = happy customers. There is always a direct link. Look after your own - PLEASE
