    Pros

On the right team and project, Amazon is a great place to work. Extremely talented people, and interesting problems. Amazon leans heavily towards investing in the long term which means it explores some fascinating areas and makes big bets. Think of it as a well funded VC firm funding many startups (AWS, Amazon Instant Video, Amazon Fresh, etc.)

    Cons

As it grows, Amazon is becoming more "corporate". Also, oncall responsibilities can be a burden on the wrong team.

I have been working at Amazon.com full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Lots of technical problems to solve
    - Smart colleagues
    - Lots of opportunities to learn service oriented architecture and how to scale services

    Cons

    - Operations burden is high, can be excessively high depending on the team
    - Most of the teams don't have any support engineer layer in front of them contributing to the above mentioned problem
    - Equipments are OK but old models and cheap compared to other companies considered in the same league
    - Policy to sponsor for permanent residency is horrible, new college hires don't qualify for the sponsorship
    - Little to no opportunity to contribute to the open source community even though this company wouldn't exist if it didn't use tons of open source products
    - People are packed in small cube areas to the extent that sometimes workers think if they are violating the fire code
    - Almost zero perks

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company can be bit less frugal to make the employees happier

I have been working at Amazon.com

    Pros

It's like they say about New York City; you should live there while your young so you can experience all it has to offer, but don't stay too long because it will grind you into dust. The deliver-at-all-costs machine flings bodies left and right. There's a reason the average length of employment is 18 months.

    Pros
    * Some smart people to learn from
    * Fast moving culture
    * Opportunity to learn quite a few things as long as you don't linger too long educating yourself

    Cons

Focus is solely on delivery. They have a set of core competencies, but don't be fooled. The only one that really matters is "deliver results." The rest can and will be used against you in the review cycle. You can be a rock star in all others but if they don't like your delivery they will do what they can to make you feel inadequate about it.

I have been working at Amazon.com

    Pros

amazon is thriving so there are lots of opportunities for future career development and their benefits are okay.

    Cons

High stress in the warehouses. Employees are in a rated function in which they must average above the bottom 10% or they are performance managed and possibly fired. Corporate is the way to go.
