    Pros

Money is good, there are mentors available for SDE1s and managers have incentive to get you promoted. There are also tech talks every week and a strong engineering culture. If you want to learn, you have infinite opportunities to do so.

    Cons

Oncall - getting woken up at 3am to work is the worst feeling ever, and depending on the team you join, it might happen way too often. It can also be hard to find senior engineers to learn from, or to have as a mentor - the company is very young and the turnover is high. I've been there 3 years and my tenure is longer than 66% of the employees in Seattle.

    Advice to Management

Do more to attract experienced talent and get them to mentor, do talks, maybe even give classes. There are not enough experienced engineers to learn from, and the ones who are there don't have time to help others learn and grow.

    Pros

You will work with some extremely talented, very intelligent engineers. You get to work on large-scale, interesting problems, and you will develop a product you're proud of.

    Cons

You will probably work harder here than you are used to. Also, you will be on a 24 hour oncall rotation, which can eat into your personal life.

    Advice to Management

Management has actually impressed me. Most senior management have very detailed, intimate knowledge of the products under their umbrella org-- sometimes more than the engineers. But if we're giving advice... allow the engineers a better work/life balance.

    Pros

    - Smart people - Lots of technical challenges

    Cons

    - Too much extra operational work for no extra benefit - Long work hours - Absolutely horrible vesting schedule for RSUs - Poor health insurance which does not cover uncommon problems - Very cheap culture in the name of frugality

    Pros

Good pay, they do most of the visa work for Canadians, good housing. You learn quite a bit, overall pretty good.

    Cons

So much work. Spent tons of time working late during the week, deadlines are always tight. Also, no overtime pay since you're getting paid by the month. Seems like the company as a whole is all about penny pinching everywhere, but with the amount of money they have, they could really treat their employees a bit more. Also, the lack of holidays is depressing (they don't give you holidays for like anything. No Easter Monday, no President's Day, etc.)

    Advice to Management

Just invest in your employees more, not necessarily more pay, but like make deadlines more lenient and stuff. Also, give more holidays, it really doesn't cost the company that much to give a couple of days off a year

It depends on the team, but overall, a pretty good place to be, if you just want to build stuff.

    Pros

Pretty good pay. Smart coworkers. Interesting work. Even as an individual contributor, you will have a lot of product ownership.

    Cons

Amazon is definitely not for everyone. Being on-call can be a major pain sometimes. Also, except for the pay, benefits tend to be pretty bare compared to other tech companies.

    Advice to Management

Give IC engineers more options for career advancement. Don't be too frugal with work environment.
