Awful place to work

Business Office Manager (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Amedisys full-time for more than a year

ProsYou are employed.....that's about it!

ConsSome of the challenges of working here are: Your wage will be significantly lower than others in home health industry. You will be expected to do mounds of work with little to no assistance. Training lags far behind the rest.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees. Improve processes based feedback and results, do not base everything on a bonus or profit.

Business Office Manager

Business Office (Former Employee)
Sarasota, FL

I worked at Amedisys full-time for more than a year

ProsEmployees very hard working and honest

ConsPoor job security. Trainers train but other Office locations say to do things the other way until you get tired and don't know what is the right way and who knows the right way. AVP's not qualified to train staff they don't know themselves the right or wrong way. Before taking a job at this company check all the complaints they are all the same and also if you value your career and hard work and take your job seriously DO NOT - REPEAT DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY. The location AVP's and other Executive level office managers take your pride, your intelligence and your self esteem and tear it apart, they suck you dry enough that you never want to work in health care again even if you have been in health care for 20 years.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo under cover and be an employee for a few months. You will be in for an experience. Listen to your office staff and don't take for granted that the area managers are honest and helpful in training new employees. I found that AVP's and other Department Executives didn't know how to train office staff and didn't have a clue about what their staffs jobs were. Wh.ile working there for less than 2 years I had 7 new Office Directors. You should not hire quickly and hire qualified management.

Very Disappointed

RN Field Nurse (Former Employee)
Jeffersonville, IN

I worked at Amedisys full-time for less than a year

ProsI could not find a positive.

ConsWow, where do I start. My orientation was unacceptable , very sporadic with no set schedule. They use the "fly by the seat of your pants" philosophy. Apparently there is Preceptor/Trainer for RN's but she is covering a large regional area so you may get lucky and have her ride with you for a couple days. The refurbished computer I was given would not respond to the programs which is frustrating and the IT department couldn't seem to find the problem. You are expected to use your own cell phone for business purposes with a $30.00 a month reimbursement which is not automatic, you have to request it each month and if the bill is not in your name then you can't request reimbursement. Pay is per visit but you are not compensated for all the additional time spent calling doctors offices and doing extra paperwork. Mileage is reimbursed on map software which doesn't take into account construction, traffic issues or weather. I spent more than eight hours a day doing my work but was told that I could not submit extra admin time for this because it was overtime. This was my first experience with home health and I would have to say this is not the company I would recommend for your introduction.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen RN's and Therapists are leaving in droves then it might be time to re-examine the business philosophy. Cutting benefits of those that are actually generating the income is not the best idea. Since these professionals have a choice of where to work, you need to make it appealing to work for your company.

Sinking ship

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Baton Rouge, LA

I have been working at Amedisys full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe experience looks good on your resume, and the pay is ok. Healthcare is an industry with a great mission and a chance to touch people's lives... but Amedisys isn't great for that.

Consthe executives really just don't have any idea what they're doing, and they bounce around new ideas, layoff people, cut departments, add them back, change incentive plans, reorganize people... all kinds of busy-ness in the hope that something works. Hope ain't a strategy.

Advice to Senior ManagementCut the BS, stop guessing, and remember that you're messing with people's lives. Think about how your new ideas and processes eat up time and take people away from doing things that actually generate value for the company.

Frustrating, exhausting, bad management

Staff RN (Former Employee)
Albuquerque, NM

I worked at Amedisys full-time for more than a year

ProsAfter working there for a year I don't think there are any good reasons to work there. Of course the other staff were nice but can't find another reason unless you are desperate for a job.

Consthe job was misrepresented when I was hired. Worked 10-13 hours a day. No lunches. Management had no interest in listening to the issues that the Nurses had. It is all about productivity. And if you can't keep up productivity they will let you go. Regardless of the circumstances. And yet they don't want any overtime. The mileage reimbursement is below what the Federal government allows. You have to stay on top of your mileage and pay check to make sure there are no mistakes. The poor PT and OT are paid a nominal fee for their visits. I honestly don't see how they survive on their salary. But that's Amedysis

Advice to Senior ManagementIt is hard to give advice or ideas for change to a company that does not foster the type of listening that is needed to make those changes. The biggest mistake was when they took this company public. Their first responsibility is to the shareholders, which puts a burden on the employees to see more patients and complete all the paper work/computer work in an untimely fashion. There are multiple problems in how the individual offices are managed. I would recommend classes that provide individual insight into what is lacking in their decision making process.

Worst work environment ever

Corporate (Current Employee)
Baton Rouge, LA

I have been working at Amedisys full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIt's a large company and can look good on a resume.

ConsNo loyalty to employees. Management is often hired as "favors" for friends which means there are very many unqualified in upper management. There are no raises or bonuses for the staff (minus upper management). People have left or been laid off and barely any of these positions have been refilled, making for an even heavier workload. The parking lot is now bare compared to when I started 3 years ago. Then there are the lawsuits and fraud. Agree with previous review, sinking ship.

Advice to Senior ManagementToo late. Jump of the ship.

Executives and managers abuse employees and it's a sinking ship

Corporate (Current Employee)
Baton Rouge, LA

I have been working at Amedisys full-time for more than 5 years

ProsAmedisys is a big company, and for some reason people in the outside world think it's good experience. And I keep reading that the training is good - it must just be for clinicians, because it's terrible for office staff.

ConsIt's a sinking ship - between Medicare cuts, serious mismanagement and a 1990s approach to writing their own software, there's really no hope. They've already started the death spiral. They've cut benefits, bonuses and salaries for years (but the execs keep getting their bonuses!). They've rammed abusive arbitration policies down employees' throats because they get sued so often for wrongful termination and not paying overtime they should. Corporate leadership is bloated - way too many high-pay VPs and not enough people doing real work. Turnover is massive everywhere and nearly constant layoffs, and they want more more more from the people who are left. Unless you're about to be homeless, Amedisys is a mistake.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt's too late. You abused employees to develop software that isn't going to create any money. It's a Spruce Goose. The board and execs should be fired, along with half of corporate leadership.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Athens, TN

I worked at Amedisys

ProsABSOLUTLY None that I found!

ConsManagement is horrible to include upper management , Company is dollar driven and not patient driven, no orientation, high turn over rate so working short staffed is often, getting paid per visit... as a RN can make more at Wal-Mart when you average your pay with the hours you have worked, don't be deceived about getting paid over time....WILL NOT BE WHAT YOU THINK! The computers you have to work with are JUNK! VERY DISORGANIZED!! Got paid per visit and no one to include the regional HR person could tell me what I was to be paid! What they told me I would be paid on hire and what they paid me were not the same (was less). They do not value there employees. I worked here for approx 5 months and was the worst job experience I have ever had in my 20 years of nursing. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS JOB TO ANYONE!!

I worked at Amedisys full-time for less than a year

ProsNothing to say, really. It looks good at the beginning, but you don't want to see what you dug out.

ConsUpper management; old staff that doesn't accept any changes, crusty and rotten.

Advice to Senior ManagementVP's and AVP's of BD and Ops: Get back to school and get a degree.
