I have been working at Amedisys full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

they are always hiring because turnover is so high, so if you need a job, this is the place. patients and families are wonderful. Good staff in field.

    Cons

wasteful of time and money. poor decision-making. take on too many patients when not enough staff. was encouraged at one point to break a regulation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

there will be greater profit if good employees are retained by being given appropriate number of visits. Check NHPCO for typical visits per day and week then work to hire appropriately. IT is very expensive to be constantly hiring and training.

I worked at Amedisys part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexibility with scheduling. Good electronic documentation system. Good initial orientation training to home healthcare documentation and legal requirements.

    Cons

Staff not notified when office procedures change, then reprimanded for not following appropriate procedures. Bullying of specific employees that performed well, ultimately resulting in less work being given to those employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Critical conversations with management and more involvement of the Director in the daily activities of the supervisors is needed. Inconsistencies in communication between the office staff and field staff lead to significant errors and re-work. Excessive travel time between clients is a significant issue with this company, and should be addressed in a meaningful way not only for improved employee satisfaction, but for improved company productivity.

Former Employee - Registered Nurse in Chicago, IL

I worked at Amedisys full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The company had great benefits and good field nurses were allowed to make nursing decisions and carry out what was needed for their patients.

    Cons

The company managed to find supervisors that were somehow embedded in their job with no to barely any supervision from the main office - these were supervisors that made undue hardships and burdens upon the field staff in the most ridiculous way - such as asking us to see impossible numbers of pt's a day, or to see pt's in cities tat were miles and miles away from each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get better supervisors in your Chicago area offices, esp the one on Lake Shore Drive, you have people that have been in the same job for years and have no one overseeing their miserable work that they assign to their staff nurses. Don't you ever wonder why there is so much turnover in your Chicago offices?

    Pros

Lots of flexibility, company car, good pay

    Cons

Poor upper management, lack of communication, never know who to answer to. Things change on a day to day basis. Multiple daily emails outlining what you have failed to accomplish. Bonuses are held if you fail to force a Dr to complete face to face.

    Pros

Nice co-workers. Enjoyed visiting patients in their home and providing them with the care they need.

    Cons

Shady management. Requiring case managers to "enhance" diagnosis so patients would qualify for hospice. Management would bully patients and their families when they would try to switch to a different hospice company or decide to go off hospice. Unreasonable expectations for number of visits or travel per day. Always on call during nights and weekends.

I have been working at Amedisys part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Company has full benefits: health insurance, PTO, 401k with match, and decent continuing education opportunities. Can make decent money if you are willing to work a lot.

    Cons

Large amounts of paperwork that your time isn't reimbursed for, high levels of productivity required. To meet productivity you will end up with overtime every week. Not a good choice if you have a family or outside obligations. Computers frequently crash and support is not available onsite and this wastes a lot of time as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to spend more time working in the field so they have more realistic expectations of what clinicians can accomplish in an 8 hour day. Need to find ways to better support the clinicians in the field and cut down on paperwork and wasted time.

I have been working at Amedisys full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Staff is like family, very supportive & caring. I love the clinicians & office staff.

    Cons

Pay per visit, easily burned out as the only focus is on productivity. No pay raises, no time for professional development, you must take PTO to do this, high turnover of staff. Company is squeezing the employees financially to make more for the shareholders & upper management. Stressful job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work in the field to see what it is really like!
