    Pros

    I worked in Central Florida. My experience was positive overall. I learned everything I now know about home health care. I think that Amedisys supports employee education, though the motivation to advance is primarily self-driven. Amedisys had a well-integrated and responsive IT interface; I experienced one unplanned, corporate-wide information systems downtime during my tenure. The core staff, those co-workers with whom I worked most often, was reliable and supportive. Management was supportive and understanding during my separation. The corporate director of the business line that covered my Nursing specialty was reachable and approachable, by phone or by email, for insight and guidance regarding my focused fieldwork.

    Cons

    My experience with onboarding at Amedisys was terse, at best. There was little explanation of policy/procedure related to time and expense recording/recompense. I learned most of these policies by finding and reading the information on the company intranet. There are few regular Amedisys clinicians in my Nursing specialty. As a result, I gleaned the majority of my focused learning from my own self-directed searching through corporate policies and procedures; I had to find my own answers about specifics of my clinical practice with the company. In my tenure at Amedisys, I witnessed a high turnover rate for RN/LPN staff. This fact was unsettling for staff coherence and teambuilding, communication, and consistency in client care. I think that certain focal points about cost containment were promoted at the expense of comprehensive client care.

    Advice to Management

    My advice: determine and address root cause analysis regarding Nursing staff turnover; maintain the priority of safe and effective client care, balanced appropriately against cost containment measures.

    Getting new software, which will improve efficiency/productivity of charting for clinicians allowing them to have a better home/work life balance. Hopefully this will result in lower turnover rates and training costs.

    Cons

    Benefits keep shrinking, and pay raises haven't been seen in a while.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the positive changes that have been happening in the last few months....also empower your employees and receive even more job satisfaction. With proper training an employee should be allowed to make more critical decisions that would improve efficiency and make them feel more valued. Include employees in discussions about changes, often times the person doing the work isn't consulted when a change is planned. It is highly likely the person doing the work may have a better solution.

    They promote from within current employees. They have good benefits for employees. You are able to get educations within the system. Many different ways to seek employement.

    Cons

    Much change in the structure of management that seems to keep seems to not stop. The upper management will not look at a person for the qualities they might have and bring to the company but only see if they fit in their box. They have become a less family friendly company to work for at this time. Has little respect for a balance in life. Very high demands put on employees for their time and efforts.

    Advice to Management

    The company needs to have some serious training for upper and middle management on team building and look at what motivates people to perform at a high level and why they have such high turn over.

    Benefits were excellent. The office setup was wonderful. Expense account was very nice and education tools were the best I have ever seen.

    V.P. Regional not from your area and not understand the dynamics of the territory.

    Advice to Management

    Don't hire all full time nurses, they will keep the census low so their case loads stay very load. Hire more PRNS. Allow discharges to be approved my only the DOO.
