Great intro into oil and gas

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood place to start in the propane industry.

ConsNo structured training program for your position. The environment is filled with long time complaining employees. Although they are the number 1 propane company in the US the pay is low compared to the competition.

Generally good, hard working, friendly employees

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsExcellent technology, invest in training for field employees, senior management is involved and trying to expand the company

ConsSeemingly good, competent employees seem to suddenly disappear to seek other opportunities (aka get fired)

Advice to Senior ManagementPut as much value on current employees as you do on outsiders and consultants

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    No Accountability

IT Department (Former Employee) King of Prussia, PA

ProsGreat people as far as peers and the next level of management up
Good place to cut your teeth

ConsThere seems to be an air of non accountability. When there are problems more often than not middle to upper management would rather point the finger at another department instead of collaborate to correct the issue.
When hired, unless your invited into the "click", expect not to move to a better position. I realized this after several years with the company and finally left.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou're bleeding talent, start listening to your people. When they tell you something is wrong investigate
Make sure your management has the same skill set as the department they are heading up. I've seen too many times when a manager will be told this is the way to do things and it was the exact opposite of "Best Practices" -this was abundantly clear within the IT department.

    Disorganized

Safety Assistant (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsFriendly staff, large office space, and large overall company background. This company also has a variety of different position available beginning with entry level and excelling to the highly educated.

ConsHighly disorganized! The IT department cannot function as a whole. The company is trying to move towards a (hopefully) better system with TMW, but the transition has been a mess. I would not recommend employment here if you are OCD and need things to be orderly and timely.

    Service Tech

Service Tech (Current Employee) Bellaire, MI

ProsYou get your work in the morning and you go do it. Benefits, lots of time off, pay

ConsCorporate keeps changing policies. They have a "do this or else" attitude. Corporate only looks at the bottom dollar, not the people. Horrible customer service.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmpower employees. Understand, not every situation can fit in a SOP. allow employees to use common sense.

Good to be home at night.. But with a dangerous cost.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSecure, consistent work . Home nights and weekends.

ConsUnder paid for the dangerous positions we are involved with daily. Lack of appreciation.

    America's propane company

Logistics Coordinator (Former Employee) Houston, TX

ProsThey are recognized as a industry leader. Everyone is familiar with propane in some aspect.

ConsThe busness model is not built for organic growth. Growth is mainly through acquistions. AmeriGas is highly political, when it comes to advancement and pay raises. The business is very seasonal, warm winters are bad for business. AmeriGas is committed to paying the dividend to unit holders even if no profit is made. They will borrow money to pay the dividend.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on organic growth. You should have held onto the hard assets such as Bumstead, AZ storage. Selling off assets for short term gains does makew good long term sense.
