    Line Captain

Pilot - Captain (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsIt's a tough career choice, but at Eagle, it's more of a job. Do your time, cover your ass and watch your back, trust no one in management, keep low profile. You will get paid, but make sure youre not shorted by overworked book keepers. I had more fun and enjoyment being a charter pilot back in the day. Steady work is good.

Conswork schedule quaility declining=less quality of life. No real management leadership from such a management heavy organization. Old style top-down management. You are a number, nothing more, nothing less. Your input doesn't matter, suggestions are not headed. Pay stagnant and benefit costs increasing. Paychecks need constant attention...so many contractual language issues that you can get the short end if you don't watch it. Very low overall moral. Many of us were recruited with promises of career progression, flowing into AA, but it hasn't really happened.

Advice to Senior ManagementTime for all new blood, new way of doing things. When passengers/employees are not happy, you're just a declining decaying dinasour. Give employees the tools (working air-carts/GPU/jet-bridge/de-ice trucks. Enpower front-line personal to make a difference and a decicision instead of being scared to act so nothing gets done or fixed.

Set up to fail from the start!!

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Fort Worth, TX

ProsMet some really nice people - the AA employees are a group of extremely nice individuals.

ConsHired for one position but put into a different position for which I had no experience. No guidance from team lead - very bad frustrating experience. I am sure this is not the case for all organizations within AA and I would recommend the company. Just be very thorough in investigating exactly what your role will be and who will do your training!

Domestic sales- Worst job I ever had

Domestic Sales (Former Employee) Fort Worth, TX

    ProsFlight benefits rock
    work from home

ConsManagement's main focus is to reduce your average call time. Regardless of the situation on the phone, whatever weather event is going on, or how much help the customer needs, they want you to get off the phone as soon as possible. I had the highest numbers on my team in terms of revenue/call and partner solicitations and my manager would ride me on my average call time being a few seconds longer than normal.

Management "qualified" to run fast food restaurants..... Horrible company

    Agent (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

    ProsCo workers and flying bennies

ConsUneducated management, majority at ORD only have a HS degree, if that. Company does not care for its employees. Broken, unsafe, archaic equipment. Management changes every season, ex: today you are ramper, 6 months from now running it all at ORD.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo back to college, get people skills and show employees they matter.

Great place to work, really bad management

Fleet Service Clerk (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsFlight benefits, great group of people that is the reason I'm still here you are just a number if you don't make mistakes they won't know who you are

ConsThey don't care about you at all it's all about them making their money you are just a number poor management . Anybody can be a supervisor that's why they don't last

Management sucks the higher up you go

Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsLove working with my fellow employees. Very diverse crowd. Great experience.

ConsVery little compensation for your responsibility. Management wants more and more from you and wants to give you less and less. AMR and newely formed AAG keep reporting about all the profits rolling in yet the compensation for employees is atrocious. Specially for the regional flying.

Advice to Senior ManagementHere is a clue for you. Regional flying is a neccesity to operations. The aircraft go thru more cycles then the larger aircraft. They require more work from both maintenance and flight crews. Current MOD at ORD seems more interested in how he can screw you and ruin moral than fix problems. The common adage there is that Moral Don't Fix Airplanes. Well let me tell ya, Bad Moral fixes them a lot slower.

I would be shocked if this airline is around in 5 more years.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsThe individuals at the lower levels are great to work with.

ConsPay is horrendous. Management has zero respect for employees. The future is more than a little uncertain. Morale is at an all time low.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe fish rots from the head. The most successful airlines all treat their employees with respect, who then turn around and treat the customer with respect. Try it.

    Treated poorly at American Eagle

Passenger Service Agent (Former Employee) East Elmhurst, NY

    ProsFlight Benefits and that's it.

ConsLow pay, treated very poorly by management, no organization. Not flexible at all. Low morale

Advice to Senior ManagementRaise pay of your employees.

    Horrible company to work for

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    Pros401k 401k 401k Retirement 401k

ConsPay is insulting for the amount of work and responsability they give you. Not to mention the schedual. Plus your forced to be Union and all they do is nothing but take your money. It very corupt there. Managment is horrific. They could care less about anyone there. Also usually there are standards for managment like education. Not here. Its all political and if your in the cool kids club.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet some education in buisness management and acually care about the people that work for you
