All that glitters is not gold

Pros – American serves a lot of cities and has bases in many cities you may have considered living . I have met some of the best friends you could ever ask for there.

Cons – The management at American is determined to exploit their employees and is on a mission to eliminate work rules and lower hourly wages. They've presented an ultimatum to some of their most experienced agents to accept 30% pay cuts or leave and they are creating work rules for their flight attendants that make flying and having a family impossible.

Advice to Senior Management – Resign and allow management that see the value of front line employees to run the airline properly.

Pros – Flight Benefits. That is, if you can get on. The planes are so full now days, it is sometimes not worth the hassle.

Cons – Lower management has no accountability, and is afraid to make decisions. Upper management sees only numbers and expects harder - faster. Company is run by bean counters. Employee moral is rock bottom. Insurance is a joke. Only 5 holidays per year. Low 401k match (5.5%).

Advice to Senior Management – Mechanics do not work on "widgets" and every job is different, it is not an assembly line.

Worst of the airlines! Horrid company culture!

Pros – Right now there are none.

Cons – Management is inept (Senior management not supervisory)
hey come after employee salaries and benefits whenever they are in trouble while taking huge bonuses themselves.
They rule by intimidation and fear. They like to pit work group against work group.
They are ruthless against other airlines and careless with the people they hurt in the cities we pull out of.
The flight attendant union is as inept as the management it supposedly goes against! Don't believe for a second that they have your best interest at heart. Don't know which I hate more the union or the management.
They have taken away every bit of flexibility we had in this job. The new pay and rules which will soon be implemented will leave new hires working for less than minimum wage when you calculate the hours out in compared to the hours paid!
DON'T DO IT! Flight Benefits are useless as our planes are full because they have cut so much capacity!

Advice to Senior Management – LEAVE! Let Parker try to salvage this airline. Please take the APFA with you....

Current

Pros – Employees fly free when there is an empty seat

Cons – No employee apprecitation, Management saved from bankruptcy once and spent the money on thier bonuses

Advice to Senior Management – Unhappy employees dont make a successful company. employees can only give back so much

What was is no more

Current

Pros – I'm sorry I am at a loss for reasons now, the best I can say is after 24 years
I am awaiting a buyout Package to leave

Cons – Little if any respect for employees, no better for workers
Don't expect to be successful, or advance.
Don't expect a raise while top heavy management lavishes itself
With bonus plans.
Well like I said what was is no more but it was a great ride.

Use to be a great job- no longer-great airline turned into a poorly run airline

Pros – The time off is good. I like that I usually do not bring home my job and live a stress free life away from the workplace.

Cons – Very hostile environment between labor and management. Severe pay and benefit cuts while upper management get bonuses.

Advice to Senior Management – Leave!

Overall somewhat positive, although this experience has declined year in and year out due to decreased pay and rules.

Current

Pros – Work with great people in an exciting field, with some good benefits.

Cons – The company management has really become ineffective. No raises for the last 13 plus yrs., took a 20% pay cut in 2003.. and now more cuts are expected due to bankruptcy. Customer service has diminished due to cost cutting. The attitude of most of the employees here has been quite negative to indifference, including local managemant. Work weekends and holidays with no increased compensation.

Advice to Senior Management – Manage from qualatative manner instead of a strict quanatative philosophy. Human resources has become like a form of gestapo, making threats and handing out disaplineary letters for every little infraction. This is not only ineffective cost control, but also sends a poor message how management values its employees.

NO NO NO!

Pros – Travel, on other airlines is the same as American Airlines..

Cons – They are angry and disorganized. They either dont know the union contract or try to get you unknowingly. The union is great but the entire company is corrupt.

Advice to Senior Management – Remember where you started... How hard it was. Nurture and take care of the people with less seniority/money!

It use to be great but now since they are trying to reinvent the wheel, it is more segregated.

Current

Pros – The only thing I can think of is the satisfaction of fixing an Aircraft. It is not the flying since it is extremely difficult to go anywhere these days

Cons – No respect from management or other workers i.e. flight crews. It use to be different, I don't know where it went wrong. Working Holidays and Weekends.

Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees we have been in the trenches for a long time, and show respect.

It;s American Airlines but Memorial day is not a Holiday!!!!!!!!!

Pros – The only thing left is fight benefits

Cons – company is being ran into the ground by bean counters, treats employees like dirt and any other good benefits are going away.

Advice to Senior Management – Treat your employees good and the sky is the limit!
