I worked at American Airlines full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Collegial environment. As a new hire, you are expected to voice your opinion.

    Cons

Low compensation (low base salary and usually no bonus). Low pay raise. If you want to be very rich, this is not a company for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve compensation by cutting people from management team and stop hiring too many new employees. A common reason why people leave is to seek better compensation. It's less costly to raise compensation for current employees than to hire employees.

I have been working at American Airlines part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Watching the planes land and take off is an amazing sight to see; also being apart of the whole process is an amazing experience! You, your family, and friends can travel free! You only have to pay a super low traveling fee. Fun!

    Cons

I worked at a small airport, at small airports you have to do everything; which include the ticket counter, and out side at the arrival and departure gates. If you work at a big airport than you are assigned to a particular area. The pay is a little low it is around $10 an hour; at least for Illinois back in 2011 it was. You have to get use to working in all types of positions, and conditions. So if you do not like working outside in the heat, cold, snow, or rain. Then working at the gates may not be for you.

    Pros

Great benefits, flexibility to make your schedule almost anything you want, friendly coworkers and managers

    Cons

Can't relocate just anywhere, has to be within 75 miles of an office

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give the lower employees more credit, they can handle more tasks.

I worked at American Airlines full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people are great and wiling to help
    Good company culture
Flight benefits are amazing and managers are understanding about leaving early on a friday or reaching late on a monday to make a flight
Rotational program where you can change jobs every year or so gives you a good understanding of the whole industry

    Cons

Lack of formalized training. Most of the training is done on the job by peers
Building and setup are very old and could use changing. There is also no free coffee or tea

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing to get the airline on top

I have been working at American Airlines part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Management, processes, organizational communication, compensation. Management served as mentors. Wonderful values and ethics policies. The managers were highly organized and goal-oriented. Exceptional leadership.

    Cons

Lack of growth opportunities. Management should devise a plan to retain interns or part-time staff. However, this office closed. Unfortunately, there should have been a plan to transfer lower, but vital, personnel to other locations.

I worked at American Airlines full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

If you like to travel, you're surrounded by people like you, with the passion to travel. There's a good diversity of backgrounds. They like to hire from within.

    Cons

It's now US Airways, not American Airlines. All the senior leadership is from US Airways. The president has publicly said he doesn't believe in marketing, so be cautious. Travel perks are for standby travel. With all the people laid off with flight benefits, not sure you'll really get to use them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not everyone who came from the old American Airlines is clueless. There are a lot of good employees, please listen to their ideas.
