I worked at American Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The co-workers, flexibility once you gain a lot of seniority. Travel perks

    Cons

Once you retire, you will not get very limited travel perks- the merger with US Airways has harmed all current and future retirees who were promised retirement travel benefits and then were taken away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't pit one work group against another, or when merging, one airline against another!

    Pros

They are hiring a lot of folks

Tough environment. Most employees seem a bit jaded by the years of uncertainty and instability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation must increase to retain quality folks.

By being a Flifhr Attendant, management is very insensitive about being sick or even if u have an accident on the plane, they will keep calling u at home and they don't respect doctor's note or ur rights, they have a bunch of lawyers to defend them.

I worked at American Airlines (more than an year)

    Pros

Flight benefits are great. If you're young & flexible, great job to have. Alot of career advancement potential

    Cons

Felt overworked, undervalued as an employee. Can easily get very redundant, especially with bad weather causing flight delays and cancellations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more incentives to phone reps doing a good job.

I have been working at American Airlines full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great flight benefits as American has a lot of destinations around the world. Also being a part of the One World Alliance really opens up the door to even more destinations.

    Cons

Being a part of the bottom of the totem pole, you realize that when you're that far down in the company, they don't really care too much about you. The pay is not sufficient for the area. It would be extremely difficult, if not impossible to live on this kind of pay. Due to the schedule being given by seniority, if you have just started in the company, and are young, you can expect never to be assigned weekends off, and to working into the wee hours of the morning. The micro managing that you have to do is not worth the pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better pay, some more flexibility with being able to get a day off in the case of emergencies, and not having to micro manage our work schedules due to trading shifts because of not getting a shift suitable for you would be very helpful in keeping employees long term.
