I have been working at American Airlines full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The convenience of flying somewhere on a whim (if available). If you can handle quick and multiple process changes then this is the place for you.

    Cons

You will get an occurrence if you sign in one second late. I needed surgery and advised HR two months in advance and provided FMLA documents and was advised I would still get an occurrence because it is their policy. Most of the performance is based on talk time so you have to move the customer quickly because it affects your rating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please be a little more compassionate to the employees when it comes to processes. I know this is a business but I think it would keep employees from finding ways to work around the system or to the point of not caring if they get multiple occurrences.

I have been working at American Airlines full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Travel benefits
    Flexibility with schedule.
    Ability to tele-commute

    Cons

HR slow to respond, at times not responsive
Internal business structure is old (this is how it is always done)
    Unstable work environment
    Home-based rep benefits need overhaul

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For each area have a designated HR Consultant who will assist when the call center cannot.
Continue to update systems and processes.
Have an call center team for post flight issues to create additional customer loyalty or change the process to incorporate calling customers to let them know we are working on their issue they have written in about.

I worked at American Airlines full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Travel and great co-workers. Company is innovative at surviving.

    Cons

The call center is the only non-unionized work group in the airline. Therefore, res is the first to give up money in economic downturns and the last to get the money and benefits back on the uptick. As in all call centers, management micro manages it's workforce(because they can) and the tech capability to quantify everything has outpaced their ability
to balance their employees quality of work life. Not enough money has been put in the computer system, and that hobbles the employees ability to perform their duties. There is a disconnect from upper management on the basic realties of how, and what their lower level employees need to perform their jobs. I think there is an attitude of disrespect to the lower tier, first line of contact to the public workers, and that is counter-intuitive to employee and customer satisfaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use more carrots and less stick with your employees. Lighten up a little. Res is a lean, profitable machine.
