I worked at American Cancer Society full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great for hands on in just about every area of IT support. Very rewarding to help those who are helping others.

    Cons

The salary is low in comparison to the workload/expectations. Job description/primary duties can change at the drop of a dime.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should put their employees above their personal/career goals. Keep in mind you are managing People not thinhgs nor revenue.

I worked at American Cancer Society

    Pros

I enjoyed meeting new clients and getting them ready for the upcoming fundraising events.

    Cons

I wish it was a year round campaign as it would allow more companies to get involved earlier to fundraise.

I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

You cannot beat the mission. We are so large of a non profit that we have the resources to truly save lives, and our initiatives do just that. Work/life balance is amazing, they value your family time. Pay seems fair and supervisors treat you with respect. You have support staff which frees you up to do your job and focus on big accounts.

    Cons

Way too much bureaucracy. We have to involve too many people in everything we do. More meetings and meetings about meetings than anywhere I've worked. We aren't innovative enough. My particular office is a caddy gossip mill.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more creative and less bureaucratic.

I have been working at American Cancer Society as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

A good work/life balance (except for the days of the events, which is normal) great pay for a temp non profit job, friendly colleagues and an easy going atmosphere.

    Cons

It is a little stressful because of the season and the work involved, but it's par for the course.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that the managers communicate effectively and completely with the employees.

    Pros

ACS offers a really good work environment and supports a great mission. It's nice that there are jobs available all over the country. The medical benefits I had were GREAT and they offered several options. ACS offers really good hours which gives you the ability to have true work/life balance.

    Cons

Low pay (in a non-profit it's kind of expected!), limited room for growth depending on your desired areas.
