    AG store and Starbucks in the building

    Cons

    Negative environment. Hard to move internally. Never met the CEO or any other executive member in my 4 years there. Very disconnected from employees. Little fish in a big pond atmosphere.

    Pros

    Some flexibility within the the day, but days are dictated by holidays and orders. I had a great Area Supervisor

    Cons

    All of your holidays and the week preceding and week following are hard set deadlines. Resets make for long days. Large accounts require a lot of activities and a lot of wrangling with uncooperative big box store management, planograms for reset often need modification at the last minute making for longer resets. Still using old technology. Call Center has been outsourced. All PTM s are kept below 30 hours per week. Some have less than five hours per week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Your 7.50 start pay for PTMs with no benefits is not worth the effort it takes to maintain multiple and large accounts. The hours are not flexible enough to pair it with another job. Pay raises are meager. If you want to attract hard working, competent and self directed people you need to pay at least as well as fast food and big box store wages whose employees have way less responsibility.

    Pros

    Great flexibility for mom with younger kids.

    Cons

    After 20yrs service, pretty much run out of company. Within 2mos, both accounts taken away, leaving me as extra for resets. Set up when I returned from a vacation. Does not like people who know what doesn't work and has been tried. Supervisors set themselves up to look good at the expense of accounts, manipulate the numbers.

    Your focus should be on what works best for the account,not the percentage of orders to calls.

    Pros

    Co-workers on my crew work well and get along together for the most part. Other than that, not many pros during my time here so far.

    Cons

    Upper management has ZERO idea on how to schedule the revisions or build display racks. I think when they figure out scheduling, they just have a map and throw darts at it to decide the order and locations of our next store.

    Most of the time, we have a job in our area but next day we have to drive hundreds of miles to get to the next revision then be hundreds of miles in the opposite direction from our home the next day. Some days we work 4 hrs, others it turns into a fiasco of 14 hrs or more and gets very stressful to meet time limits of our schedule and the store managers we deal with.

    90% of the time we are missing parts (or they are severely damaged) and have to "McGyver" the card racks and displays with random or on-site custom built parts and a whole lot of ingenuity.

    They need to pay installers and merchandisers a living wage so there's less turn-over. Nothing's more frustrating than having to constantly stop what you're working on to train someone new everyday or week while you are trying to get your job done quickly end efficiently.

    We have about a 50/50 shot at having a dumpster delivered before we get to our next job site. Sometimes we have to remove the old displays, separate the metal from the plastic, stack them on pallets and wrap it all up. Then we're expected to come back to break those apart and throw it in the dumpster whenever it finally arrives days later all while trying to get to your scheduled store that night on time.

    And last but not least, they have a very strange way to input your hours. It's a SharePoint application that is so screwed up, you are lucky if you can even log in at all.

    Good luck to anyone wanting to work here because in the division of AG I work at, it's a disaster. To partially quote Forrest Gump... "It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Implement the LEAN system during revisions... actually it should be implemented company wide to save time, money, jobs and headaches from our end. Make Area Supervisors be on-site when we do revisions to get a better understanding of the work, time and problems we encounter everyday. I'm sure they can make this happen because it seems like they have a massive amount of supervisors all either passing the buck to the next guy down or ignoring our concerns altogether.

    Cons

    District managers are absolutely ridiculous. The company is struggling to keep afloat and is blaming the lowest form of employees for their inability to attract customers. District manager is a bully.

    Low pay, not enough allotted hours for some stores especially ones that always need to be straightened out plus the work you are suppose to do for that week in the store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    If an employee is injured on the job American Greetings should make sure they are able to get proper medical treatment and paid wages until they can return to work without having to fight for them with your workers comp, insurance company. Having your employees suffer without medical treatment and not get paid while they are out of work because the claim was denied for bogus reasons and taking weeks to battle it out with your insurance company is inexcusable.

    It was excellent to work at 11 years ago. Company went hard.

    Cons

    Not enough hours assigned to do what is expected from you. The reports are behind at least a week so then management will always have a wrong percentile of how you work.

    Assigned more time so the merchandisers can get their work done they way you want it done.

    Great co-workers. Environment and relationships with co-workers made it easy to go to work each day.

    Cons

    No consistency in direction from upper management/owners of company. From massive layoffs, then to turn around and do mass hiring....then massive layoffs again. Owners take company private in Aug. 2013, which caused more layoffs, and constant fear of being let go at any moment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Come up with a plan and stick to it. Allow your workers the ability to work towards a goal that won't be obliterated after months/years of work to get to said goal. Think about the employees you effect with your inconsistent nature.

    -Flexible-Schedule (sort of)
    -Work alone

    Cons

    -Very unrealistic about EVERYTHING!!
    -They will give you about 4 hours a week to complete tasks that take anywhere from 6-10 hours or more to be completed and then get mad at you when you don't complete your tasks.
    -Management has entitlement issues. Very snotty and rude.
    -They give merchandisers very outdated equipment, and expect them to work their butts off for very, very little pay
    -The pay is so low it really only pays the gas it takes you to travel to and from your accounts.
    -Oddly enough I was very stressed out during my time at American Greetings. I never knew being something as petty as a "Card fluffer" could be such a head ach.
    -When I first started I was told that my boss was not able to keep merchandisers in my area. Now I know why.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get off your high horse. You are not saving lives, you are not protecting the public or doing any public service for that matter. You supervise card fluffers. You are really not as great as you make yourself out to be.
