ProsVery flexible and accomodating. Good for mom with kids in schhol
Decent hourly pay
Friendly people to work with

ConsNot enoughhours to make any "real" money
Sometimes expect too much from employee - not enough hours to finish work

Advice to Senior ManagementMaybe spend a few days actually doing the work in the stores to get a realistic idea of how much we do and the amount of timit takes to keep stores looking good

American Greetings

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Cleveland, OH

I worked at American Greetings full-time for more than a year

ProsCreative environment, interesting content, fun coworkers! Lots of opportunities to be involved in projects outside of your role.

ConsPay is not great. Procedures change frequently so you're always learning a new system or protocol, but bigger, more important issues take a long time to change. Some leadership changes need to be made.

Advice to Senior ManagementStep up your pay scale to attract, and keep, top talent. Survey employees about manager satisfaction and then think hard about what they have to say and how things could be improved.

Good company to work for, great co-workers, good place to get a wide range of experience

Web Developer (Current Employee)
Cleveland, OH

I have been working at American Greetings full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat work/life balance, co-workers who are collaborative and a joy to work with, immediate supervisors/managers who are truly engaged and willing to give opportunities for development in keeping with my interests and professional goals. Excellent place to get a range of experience working on all kinds of projects.

ConsThey have gone through a number of layoffs over the last few years. The recent changes look promising that the company may be finding it's direction and structure.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep with the recent focus on more communication and transparency.

Long-time employee in the creative division

Creative (Current Employee)
Cleveland, OH

I have been working at American Greetings full-time

ProsMy colleagues are top-notch, and I've made lifetime freinds here -- in fact, most people say their coworkers are the reason they stick around!

Great amenities like a huge & fast cafeteria, on-site Starbucks, dry cleaner, half-price card & gift shop, and easy parking.

ConsThe financial pressure associated with the recent (2013) privatization of the company has put the business into a frozen state... Job #1 has become "Make Money to Pay Back Loans."

The culture is slowly changing for the better, but some pockets of bad middle management remain.

Advice to Senior ManagementAmerican Greeetings is a good place to work... but sadly it's obvious that it's a GREAT place to work only if you're within the "inner circle" of family and friends-of-family. The caste system is very visible, and it's a demotivator when it's apparent that rewards aren't necessarily given out on the basis of merit.

Former AS for AG

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at American Greetings

ProsSet your own schedule, meeting and working with diverse employees and clients, strong corporate structure, company perks (company car/cell phone), relocation assistance

ConsOutside of ASIT program, not strong continuous training for AS...some geographic territories are too large (300+ accounts)...not all territories are the same, may take over territory that has major issues but only have a limited amount of time to fix.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure every new AS goes through the ASIT program
