I have been working at American Red Cross full-time

    Pros

Great insurance, flexible schedule, good office culture and a good amount of time off, a very worthwhile cause. Some one else said it best. This is an awesome company to volunteer for....not so great to work for.

    Cons

Structure changing constantly, you never know from month to month who will get laid off or which positions will be eliminated due to structure changes. The plan is never transparent and middle employees are always left out of the loop. The strategic plan tends to change almost over night. It is impossible to plan for the future when the business that you work for is unable to plan for the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please, please consider becoming more transparent with future changes. It is very hard to have faith in an organization that seems to be "shooting from the hip" and making decisions quickly and without thought

I have been working at American Red Cross full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people at the local level. Always willing to help anyone- fellow employees, volunteers, community members...

    Cons

Management (national level who make the decisions) couldn't be more out of touch with the boots on the ground.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend a few weeks at chapters- where the real work goes on. You'll have a whole new respect for the Red Cross because you have no idea what goes on now. You'll be impressed!

Low pay, highly political, lots of drama and backstabbing. Wouldn't recommend working here or even donating.

I worked at American Red Cross full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some of the people are actually mission-driven. You get to brag that you work for a highly regarded organization. You get to work like 3 jobs in one lol.

    Cons

Ridiculous expectations of long hours, workload and timelines. Terrible pay while execs get bonuses in the midst of budget cuts and huge layoffs of older staff members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being greedy. Remember your mission.
