I have been working at American Red Cross as an intern

    Pros

The work environment is extremely relaxed and everybody is more than welcome to help you out. I was able to learn a lot through my mentors and supervisors.

    Cons

In my personal experience, I only worked one on one with one person. it would have been a little bit more helpful if I was with a team of people instead of just one person.

    Advice to Management

Overall, I enjoyed the system that was put into place. Nothing seemed wrong and I can only offer encouragement. Many people are interested in donating and eager to help save lives.

    Pros

Mission focused, strong network throughout the country, volunteer culture, unique opportunities to serve communities in need, at the top of NGOs working in disaster relief and getting stronger at identifying and utilizing new technology (social media, virtual disaster deployments)

    Cons

Stress between service delivery and revenue (doing more with less), work/life balance is hard to manage in a response organization and there is an expectation to be available by email 24/7

    Pros

I loved the majority of people I worked with... There's always going to be a bad apple. The benefits were excellent except for the part time employees who paid higher premiums. I worked night shift, days, part and full time so I was lucky to have such a supportive team.

    Cons

The pay was not a livable wage.

    Advice to Management

I would've stayed if the pay was comparable to other labs in the Portland Metro area.
