    I have been working at American Residential Communities

    Pros

    Friendly co-workers, staff, and vendors. Understanding direct managers and upper management of an employees personal and family issues thus allowing a flexible work schedule when needed. Also, great opportunity for growth within company. Many employees are recognized and get promoted and raises quickly.

    Cons

    Don't make yourself at home and don't get cozy with your coworkers. There seems to be an inconsistency of policies within upper management. It could be due to the lack of proper training provided when someone is promoted to a different position. Although people are promoted quickly because they have excelled in their current role or position it does not neccesarily mean they have the skills, knowledge, or experience to be able to handle or properly perform in their new role. This results in the inconsistencies with policies and also contributes to high employee turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It's great to promote internally but make sure they are getting properly trained before throwing them into a new position. Also, make sure you are consistent with everyone in regards to training and directives given regarding policies. For example, some individuals are sent to a two week training off site and even another one week peer coaching at their property while some never recieved ANY training at all. This is not allowing those without training a fair chance. Also, although many are promoted within the company, those upper management roles such as community managers or district managers, and so on seem to be mostly new hires. Don't overlook current employees who are far more capable of a higher role with the company due to previous experience, knowledge, and skills and on top of that are already well aware of company procedures and standards.
