I worked at American Traffic Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very competitive pay; some people can arrange for periodical telecommuting; corporate headquarters had covered parking (not sure if the new corporate headquarters has covered parking or not); some coworkers competent and hard-working, although sycophants out numbered those who really produced

    Cons

Seemed like all first- and even second-level managers micro-managed and there was no recourse, as HR and higher levels of management would support lower level managers at all costs; lots of people with significant experience, strong work ethics, and healthy enough egos that they didn't feel compelled to act like prima donnas were regularly subjected to the most ludicrous criticism by managers who, in many cases, had very little experience themselves; respect was just not apparent in day-to-day environment (it was whoever wielded the bigger stick or pitched the bigger fit who got their way); pure lip-service to new ideas, suggestions, and feedback; heaven forbid one was foolish enough to be honest in a meeting with any manager, because any sort of complaint would be used against you; one of the worst work experiences of my 30+ years as a professional

    Advice to Management

Have a real escalation process for individual contributors' complaints; first- and second-level management are entirely too powerful; they hold grudges and fire or run off good employees whether it hurts the company or not; reward applied knowledge, valuable experience, and hard work, not brown-nosing; have a true open door policy so those managers who are worried about their own competence do not hide reality from you

    Pros

decent pay thats about it !

    Cons

Micromanaging at it's finest, some of the worst leadership i have ever seen. so many people have come and gone in the few years i have been here. they hire a group of people and within 6 weeks half are gone and within another 6 weeks the rest are usually gone and then another training class arrives to take their place. as far as compensation goes it is a a one time deal meaning you get a decent starting salary but getting a decent raise is nearly impossible. most employees did not even get a raise this year and those who did receive a raise were rewarded with about a 1.5 % increase across the board no matter if you were a stellar employee or one of those who do the minimum just to get by.

    Advice to Management

this used to be a nice place to work but you obviously do not care about the employees anymore. the revolving door of executives and middle management is a great indication that nobody seems to know what the direction of the company should be. shame on you to the Tuton brothers for allowing your company to end up this way.

I worked at American Traffic Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Compensation can be good for most and benefits for those in the first year are good. Unfortunately, that's really it.

    Cons

Normally, I would not write a review as I believe we all have different experiences and perspectives at an employer and would hate to mislead someone. Some places are a good fit for some, while bad for others. However, after a year of working at ATS it didn’t seem to be the right fit for anyone. Enough people shared the same stories, perspectives, feelings, and attitudes towards the company, leadership, and culture that I decided I should convey some of that to those who may be looking for employment there. The Company: stagnant, no road map for future growth, no value proposition to differentiate from competitors. Don’t be fooled, it really is all about money. Leadership/People: inexperienced, immature, unprofessional, lack self-awareness The company has outgrown the owners/leadership and there aren’t many, if any, people there with significant, relevant experience. They want to keep doing it the “ATS way” because they had some early success in a new industry which benefited from a down economy and are now unwilling to change. They will talk about how they want to make improvements and innovate, but when people with the experience are present and willing to do so they are ignored, required to assimilate, or forced out. There is no one currently in place to lead the company to the next level. I worked with many of the managers and leaders in the company and can’t say I respected more than a few of them. And don’t plan on learning anything from anyone. No one is there to teach or develop people. Expectations are not communicated, you are there to work the second you get in the door with no learning curve cushion given. Culture: immature, unprofessional, gossipy, unhealthy, lacks accountability There is nothing positive about the culture or the majority of the people there. I’ve never seen so many people negatively affected by a work culture like I did there. It truly affected employees outside the workplace. It is that bad and the main reason for high level of turnover. It was common for people to leave within 5 months. The company gave salary increases and bonuses even though there was a plan to lay off a large part of the workforce due to poor performance. Good, responsible management would freeze salaries and bonuses to save jobs instead of paying more to the ones responsible for the issues as the need for reductions was caused by a trend of poor leadership decisions and a true lack of connection with current customers and the market environment. Because everything flows from the top it really comes down to having an inexperienced and immature leadership team that lacks relevant experience, self-awareness and simply just doesn’t get it. Find somewhere else to work, or do a lot of research and ask a lot of tough questions before committing to this company, because it will not commit to you.

I have been working at American Traffic Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My job position allows for flexible hours. I didn't start off with a quality work-life balance because of the manager that I had, but my new manager is probably the best manager at the company... and they're letting him go for layoffs.

    Cons

Horrible management! I've had 9 bosses in just over 1 year with this company. Upper management is inept and make horrible financial decisions. The company is currently undergoing layoffs because poor management decisions lost several very large clients. 40+ people were laid off last month and about the same number of people will be laid off next month.

    Advice to Management

Complete overhaul of Director positions and upper management, especially in Finance and Operations departments.

I have been working at American Traffic Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ice machine, Christmas party, and covered parking

    Cons

Absolutely no direction whatsoever. There is no communication from the top down and everyone in management is unable to make a decision. They promote friends and incompetent people only. Employees work hard only to find out they are either working on a cancelled project/program or the wrong thing all together. They need to change the words on the wall from accountability, respect, and teamwork to finger pointing, chaos, and incompetence. Whatever you do...no matter what they tell you or try to sell you.. DON'T WORK HERE. This place will bring out the worse in you and it won't be pretty. They are currently cutting staff and positions like crazy-not worth it at all.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the current executive team and bring in professionals with fresh ideas and professional business demeanor. Stop promoting everyone to VP; you really don't need that many. Sell the company to someone who has the skillset to manage the company correctly and remember.....Karma!! When you treat people badly Karma will find you.

    Cons

Bad managers Clicks No direction, not able to complete projects All over the place when it comes to goals. Could not even troubleshoot their own homegrown application AWFUL

    Advice to Management

    Pros

    Good people to work with

    Cons

Management is not connecting with employees. Cronyism is rampant, so if you have a good friend in middle management, you'll have no problems working there. They prefer threats and litigation as opposed to treating their employees well.

    Advice to Management

Don't expect people to be happy with contradictions.

I worked at American Traffic Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The money was really the only benefit.

    Cons

The company grew way too fast and management had a real hard time keeping up. Cronyism abounds. People weren't hired for quality only for who they knew. No one clear direction (too many chefs in the kitchen).

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like you would like to be treated.

    Pros

ATS paid well. That was the only good thing about working there.

    Cons

The company is led by 2 brothers with diverging strategies and a grossly overblown sense of urgency. The urgency translates into tremendous resource shifts including people. There have been many cases of upper managers hired at great cost only to be fired in a matter of months. All this while the technical platform is shaky, at best.

    Advice to Management

Find a direction then, stick with it. The red light camera is a great service when delivered properly; make that the best business you can before moving on to other products and services. You're flitting into lots of areas you aren't ready for and are unable to stand in. You also need to unload 1 brother and your outdated technology; running a business the size of ATS on an Access database... Really?
