I have been working at Ameristar Casinos full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFun environment to work for. Great learning place for new chefs. Able to learn a variety of foods hands on.

ConsWork very late hours. Dont expect weekends off. Moving up in the company is very hard too do, very political when it comes to that.

I worked at Ameristar Casinos part-time for less than a year

ProsDealer school was free and if your halfway decent your basically guaranteed a job after training.

ConsUnreliable hours....inconsistency in many areas. Take your training/experience and use it to apply at another casino

Could have been better or worse (Hotel Employee)

Guest Service Agent (Former Employee)
Saint Charles, MO

I worked at Ameristar Casinos full-time for more than a year

ProsNetworking to move on
Initial advancement opportunities
Fun atmosphere and chances to meet great guests
Supervisors were very aware of the work

ConsManagement had no idea half of what was going on
Employee exit surveys did nothing to help get the hotel management back under control
Hotel Director did not even know how to work the computer system

Advice to Senior ManagementUse the surveys to your advantage. Also, maybe consider reading reviews from Trip Advisor. If guests constantly complain about specific people in management, maybe a closer look should be taken.

Good way to crack into the casino business in Saint Louis.

Table Games Dealer (Former Employee)
Saint Louis, MO

I worked at Ameristar Casinos part-time for more than a year

ProsDid a good job making training for different games readily available to learn. Easy to move up in seniority, which makes for a better schedule that can fit your private life.

ConsHigh turn over in employees, due mostly to poor management style and higher pay at competitive casinos in the area. Felt like management spent way too much time looking for ways to fire their employees.

I have been working at Ameristar Casinos

ProsHaving the wonderful life experience of meeting and getting to know a large diversity of people. Both customers and co-workers.

ConsA business that is open twenty four hours a day, seven days a week which includes holidays. Low pay and raises.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen carefully to what your employees are saying. Make a presence in your department not just a "Hello" and leave.

Good for the most part

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Ameristar Casinos

ProsDecent pay
great co-workers
perfect for a "people" person

Conssenior management not open to opinions or ideas from the employees. Guest Service has been stressed so much, yet cuts in services have made providing good service frustrating.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't be afraid or unwilling to expend resources necessary to compete
