ProsTO is a beautiful campus, we have terrific benefits and we are doing important work.

ConsThe values and culture have changed. It's disheartening, but still a good place to work overall in most departments. Some departments are to be avoided.

ProsGreat people and culture. Access to senior management a plus, as well as new learning opportunities. Constantly trying to create efficiencies and improvements in the way the company and the functions operate.

ConsAmgen is just now working on putting into place structured career development groups. In the future, once these groups are more mature, there will be good opportunities for employees.

Former Employee – worked at Amgen full-time for more than 10 years

ProsStill doing great things to change the quality of lives for people with terrible diseases. Some of the smartest people you will ever find.

ConsOpportunities to advance in management are now limited. They tend to like to hire from the outside. Outsourcing has killed the culture that Amgen was founded and their success built.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to real workers and stop building a culture of 'yes' people who are afraid to take risks.

ProsReally smart, hardworking, busy people
Silicon-valley type benefits for southern cal
Technology-heavy work environment

ConsLast few years mgmt has been heavy-handed with cost-cutting. People with 10-15 years tenure were let go with a few hours notice.
No visibility to mgmt decision-making.
Bottom-line is the stock price. So watch your back and keep a step-ahead of layoffs.

Advice to Senior ManagementShort-sighted decision-making, with advice fed by management consultants is harming the morale and loyalty of employees
