    I worked at Amgen

    Pros

Great health benefits and brand name to work for in the industry.

    Cons

Too many job layoffs over the years and lost a lot of friends and co-workers due to Amgen cutting costs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more involved with employee personal growth.

I worked at Amgen full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people, campus. High-performing teams and expectations of excellence.

    Cons

Lip service to values that are not followed in practice e.g. work-life balance, ethical competitiion, success via merit. Management is extremely thin-skinned and brooks no 'disconfirming information' that goes counter to financial marching orders. Overly aggressive and unrealistic outsourcing is going to cause major pipeline delays and financial damage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Constant pressure to do more with less people and less-qualified people will backfire. Some of those selling the ideas for Amgen full potential are double agents for consulting firms. They will take their bonuses and return to their true masters before it all hits the fan.

    Pros

Pay and benefits are excellent. The campus is beautiful

    Cons

Constant organizational changes makes it difficult to keep staff motivated as this always seems to include a RIF

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your employees are what makes the organization what it is today...the attitude is not what it use to be and the company values seem to be floundering.

I have been working at Amgen full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I can only speak from my experience in Clinical Development - Good overall compensation package and excellent staff (which includes the contractors). This in turn attracts more brilliant scientists to join. People take their jobs seriously and are enthusiastic in what they do.

    Cons

New work process and more new work process. Constant changes and endless roll out of new work processes.
Management sees offshoring the way to become cost effective. It is positively unamarican.
The recent restructure in the name of centralization essentially rolls the company back what they started just a few years ago.
It pays to be manager's favorites

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good luck on your new corporate strategy.
