    I worked at Ann Taylor part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    GREAT employee discounts (50% plus opportunity for 60-70% for exceeding goals). I worked here through college and took full advantage of the employee discount before leaving and entering the full time workforce.

    I worked at two locations - one more of a boutique style in a high end outdoor shopping center and one in a popular mall. The boutique location especially put a lot of focus on building relationships with clients rather than a quick sale. This allowed for private events with our top clients, keeping a client book with notes and contact info when new shipments came in, etc. Made it feel like a high end experience to customers without the high end price tag.

    Cons

    Upper management is slow to address problems but quick to point them out. There was never enough hours given for properly completing a store set, so product ended up getting moved during business hours - does not give off a good impression to customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay closer attention to what your stores are saying - they are your bottom line. Focus more on personal growth, especially for mid management positions.

    Pros

    As a retail associate I always enjoyed working with my team. It's a fun environment, the clothes are nice and typically the customers are always pleasant as the age range is from young adults to Baby Boomers. Time off is always given for associates and there is room to grow into a sales lead role up to higher management.

    Cons

    Associates are not paid well starting out, closer to minimum wage. Because there are always sales in the store customers expect to always get low prices which can be difficult for associates to manage.

    Starting salary for associates should be higher and based on experience in retail.

    great pay, weekly check, good hours, great discount, good clients, always room for growth. this applies to me because I worked in a big store in the mall. there were a lot of employees at the time and everyone got above 20 hours.

    Cons

    the store i worked at relocated to a smaller store so there was a drastic hour cut. i don't like ANY of the assistant managers that I work with and it seems like they don't really like their jobs either. They all seem overworked and over-stressed, which is probably the reason for why they take their stress out on everyone else (ignoring, snappy responses, too chatty, just a mix of extreme behaviors)

    The discount is good. 50% off for associates. You get Yearly raises. Its a Pleasant atmosphere to work in. Would recommend to a friend.

    Cons

    Pay is good for store managers and co managers but they don't pay their sales leads or sales associates very much, but it is still better than some retailers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    There isn't any training programs and not much cross training. I don't feel there is much opportunity to work your way up. I wish they promoted more from within.
