I have been working at Aon full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - many opportunities in company to both internally

    Cons

    - some mid level management issues
    - pay is not bad, nor great - just at or below average

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For teams/groups that seem to be understaffed / overworked
    1- increase pay for those
    And or
    2- hire more.

I have been working at Aon full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I have been with the company for just over 2 years. I love how the company provides good benefits and that we are a client first focused firm. I like how you are exposed to different career opportunities that will help you grow professionally and personally.

    Cons

I do not have many cons about the company. The one con that I can think of is that it is a bit frustrating is to get things approved in order to move forward to get something done....in all fairness this is very common in very large global corporations.

I have been working at Aon full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Employer with strong brand, massive resources and global reach, all of which help employees delight the clients.

    Cons

The company is so big, it is difficult to see a route through the forest for personal development and career growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Prospects for career growth underlie performance and sales targets.....if they don't know where they are going, how can you expect your team to follow you?

I worked at Aon as an intern

    Pros

Global leader in commercial insurance brokerage.
Entrepreneurial office environment helps employees feel a sense of independence and personal involvement.
Colleagues bring a lot to the table with their diverse backgrounds.

    Cons

Insurance is a greying industry. I wasn't exposed to many young professionals at the office or through clients.
Since company is so big, simple service requests can become quite difficult. IT support was the biggest problem I had there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Seek out younger talent.

Overall positive experience, but it's a large company with typical large company issues.

I worked at Aon full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Many opportunities to advance or move in other areas. Tons of resources to help you do a good job. Willing to pay good salaries for good employees. Depending on position, flexible schedules or work from home opportunities are great.

    Cons

Like all large companies, some teams have people very driven individually who don't think about the team as a whole. Advancement may require moving to another state if you outgrow your local office's opportunities. Very heavy workloads are expected and a 40 hour workweek doesn't exist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure that communication to the masses is a priority and don't rely on each individual office head.

I worked at Aon full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Working there was a good overall experience. Many people in the local office felt like family. My division had many employee appreciation activities on a regular basis. Employees could nominate colleagues for All-Star awards for recognition of outstanding achievements and "extra mile" efforts.

    Cons

As with any large company, even while growing, there was often a philosophy to do more with less.

I have been working at Aon full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good benefits, lots of retirement investment options, good for working parents, flexible with hours if need be, really goes all out for clients

    Cons

very political, nitpicky on stupid things. extremely cheap on the it side, too many idiots in big positions, terrible it setup with too much outsourcing for hr and it in india.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some money on your lower level people, they make your business run. Also spend some money and hire some local IT people. India is too far away.

I have been working at Aon full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good place for growth. Lots of opportunity for advancement. Great atmosphere. Good benefits. Allow you to be flexible with scheduling which makes for great work-life balance.

    Cons

Very deadline driven, not for everyone. Compensation is fair for those starting out but bonuses and raises have been small the last several years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More emphasis needs to be placed on training. We do a good job for those staring out but no so good for those that have been there more than five years.
