    Pros

Great environment and great company to work for. Everyone around the office wants to help you learn about the corporate world.

    Cons

The work for my specific department was tedious at times. When I did finish things rather quickly, they did not have other things line up for me to do.

I have been working at Applied Industrial Technologies (Cleveland) full-time

    Pros

Good product selections. Good Vendor support

    Cons

They keep the branches so sparsely employed people stay behind in their work. There is very little time to train and customers complain all the time about inexperienced salespeople. All communication is downstream and they aren't concerned with hearing your problems. Its all about the stock holders and passing the blame fr poor service and sales down the pipeline. Be ready for a LOT of reports and a LOT of meetings. Your competitors have the same products you do for the most part so you share the same Vendor reps. The office I worked in was very political and if you ran afoul of the wrong guy he and his friends would stab you in the back at the first opportunity. They make a lot of promises on the front end but they are soon forgotten. Every decision is made at the regional manager level or higher. Local management has very little authority or input. You will get emails from management at all hours and on the weekends wanting updates on different accounts. You are on call one weekend a month and uncompensated for that. If its over a holiday dont count on going anywhere or spending time at family functions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You can only get so far sucking up to Cleveland instead of running your branches.

I have been working at Applied Industrial Technologies (Cleveland)

    Pros

Many of the people who work there are really nice. great benefits, location and free parking.

    Cons

Old school boys club. Poor work life balance. Way behind in the cutting technology race. Management doesn't encourage feedback from their people. The company just converted to SAP and the transition hasn't been easy. Poor training opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure management gets continuous leadership training. HR needs to implement and anonymous pipeline to management where feedback can be given without fear. Better training across all lines of business. Encourage work life balance with working remotely and flexible hours.

I have been working at Applied Industrial Technologies (Cleveland) full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

This is a great organization with many options for career growth and diverse learning experiences. The facility is clean, provides free parking, and has a cafeteria onsite. I work with friendly people who always offer assistance and advise. The company has a customer service focused culture and promotes the wellness and family values most people seek. The work is challenging and rewarding.

    Cons

The location is downtown in midtown.
    The industry is very competitive.
The brand is not well known outside of industrial segments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to share direction and strategy to all levels of the organization

I have been working at Applied Industrial Technologies (Cleveland) full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Can get good experience if you apply yourself and learn on your own. Great products. A for "attempted" effort with new SAP system. Really good inter-company logistics.

    Cons

No accountability, no one makes sure associates are given timely reviews and compensation for performance. Poor performers continue to adversely affect service to the customers without consequences. Too much playing. No higher management involvement. Outside sales do not sell because of lack of support from inside sales. No training available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really????? Not even worth the time. Thats why they get the big bucks. Its not rocket science.

I have been working at Applied Industrial Technologies (Cleveland) full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

As an account manager, you are given the keys to manage your territory as you see fit. As long you are filling out sales reports and keeping your numbers up, no one will hover over your shoulder.

    Cons

Very hard to build a territory from scratch. When competition is at your prospective customers' doorsteps, you need to add value to your product. It is very difficult to open, secure, and lock an account in if you just have price on your side. Price can always be beat by someone else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I recommend to pay employees industry standard salaries or you will lose essential personnel keeping the company afloat.

I have been working at Applied Industrial Technologies (Cleveland) full-time

    Pros

It is a decent entry level job that exposes you to working first hand with customers and provides you with a concept of business as a whole.

    Cons

Management rarely does what they say they will do. The company often pays less than the cost of living. They give you a plan for your future upon employment, but the plan slowly deteriorates as time goes on. There is a huge disconnect between corporate and branch levels as well as poor morale among employees, which leads to customers not being taken care of. After seeing multiple branches across the US, it is a common trend to see both veterans as well as new employees completely dissatisfied with the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage your employees by letting them know when they are doing a good job and show them that they are valued (every day encouragement, incentives, etc). Management needs to work on standing behind what they say. The customers will be much better taken care of if Applied employees enjoy where they work and know they are working for a company that values their efforts.
