I worked at Arbitron part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great pay and incentives. Options to make extra money. Good working environment.

    Cons

Can get burnt out. Needs more possible opportunities to grow into another position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Being less rigid and making the environment fun with good energy helps drive positive results. Incentives help a great deal too!

I have been working at Arbitron full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Most flexible company that I've worked for, ever! Arbitron fostered a family atmosphere.

    Cons

Politics were deep seated and you had to jump through hoops to get ahead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A sad day when the company was sold. There's nothing remaining that hints of this once great company but a few hundred angry staff.

I worked at Arbitron full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Nielsen went in and took the technology and decimated the employees. Nielsen is not a company I would work for! By the end of this year the estimate there will be 100 employees left in Columbia.

    Cons

It's Nielsen Audio Now!! They don't care about their employees or the quality of the product they put out. Arbitron was a great company until it was purchased by Nielsen and it ceased to exist on 9/30/2013. Arbitron was a company that cared about quality and the employees!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's too late they sold us down the river without a paddle.

I worked at Arbitron full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Worked there for a number of years. In general, it seemed they really cared for it's people. I loved the crew that worked with and worked with a fantastic manager. I was provided many opportunities and really progressed my career.

    Cons

Well, first of all. Arbitron was bought by Nielsen. I unfortunately was one of the many layoffs after the sale completed. Didn't much care for the the Nielsen way of doing things. Arbitron had integrity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

what can I say? The ones that were retained.....hang in there!

I worked at Arbitron full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Arbitron was an amazing place to work. The field staff worked as a team and supported each other. Most of the supervisors were helpful and supportive. Employees were listened to and things were changed when better ways to do things were recommended. Employees were happy to come to work.

    Cons

Nielsen acquired Arbitron in September 2013 and laid off all fo the field staff on a conference call. Communication seriously lacked as we were transitioned to COBRA and other benefits. Nielsen treated us as though we are an expendable commodity. Fired us all to hire people at 1/3 the pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You get what you pay for, Nielsen!

I worked at Arbitron full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay and working conditions, improved organization, now acquired by Nielsen.

    Cons

Different location now and Nielsen has bought it out, not that that is a "con" as such, but Arbitron no longer exists as such doing independent radio and television research.
