I have been working at ArcelorMittal

    Pros

Stability of a Large Company, insurace is the best you will ever see, competative 401k, difficult to get fired

    Cons

Full-time new hire associates, 87% leave within the first 3 years. There's a reason for that. If your a Material Science or Metalallurgical Engineers are in the right place, others majors are a toss up. Large Company with sub-cultures that are 'old school mill' meaning grandpa's ways of doing things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't dupe new hire and be clear with the position you intend to give them.

I have been working at ArcelorMittal full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great pay and great benefits which are given immediately. Probably the best money you can make with only a high school education

    Cons

Management will force you over another shift based on seniority if your relief calls off. Everything is based off of seniority which kills any remaining work ethic you have after probationary period. Lack of discipline. You are paid to be there working if you feel like it for most employees. and they pay you great with great benefits due to nature of work. You will miss any family activity you ever plan because scheduling is never consistent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider your labor force as we are the ones using equipment and machinery. Take into consideration there are things more important than steel. And actually be there when labor is working weekends and afternoon and midnight shifts.

I have been working at ArcelorMittal

    Pros

    Flexible start and end times

    Cons

The managers are racist still to this day. Hire people as managers/supervisors who are not familiar with HR practices who end up getting the company in legal trouble. Denied a black temp medical treatment now they are being sued. They also lie to you and tell you that you cannot apply for a job outside facility load, they tell you this when they don;t want you to leave. But our white counterparts are allowed to get jobs they didn't even apply for. However, the aformentioned practices are only in East Chicago. This behavior is not practiced in Burns Harbor, IN. My advice to potential employees is not to apply for a job in the Facility Load Dept in East Chicago apply at Burns Harbor.

I worked at ArcelorMittal full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay was good, but may stagnate quickly

    Cons

You will often be treated with disrespect, and getting yelled at is part of the company culture. About half the people in my hire group and half of the supervisors quit within two years. I specifically asked in all my interviews what the standard work day was like, and was met with dodgy answers. My standard work day was from 6-4, and frequently had to stay past then. You may be subject to rotating shifts (they did not mention any of that in the interview process).

Their safety record is not good; OSHA injury rate is significantly over industry averages

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have little advice other than do not work here.

I have been working at ArcelorMittal full-time

    Pros

For the most part; smart, hard working and friendly colleagues. Dynamic multi-cultural environment. Some very good managers. Employee engagement is improving. Communication internally is very good. Internal university and training is a plus. Culture and values are positive.

    Cons

Low salary comparatively with other jobs in Luxembourg. Few opportunities for increasing salary. A few disappointing managers. Cost reduction environment makes it stressful and most people seem unhappy. Career planning is poor. Benefits have been reduced over the years to save costs. No tuition reimbursement plan.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Salaries should not be tied to age. HR does a poor job with career planning. Cost reduction enovironment eliminates many opportunities to grow which makes it difficult for young aspiring workers. Would advise an entirely new advancement program. No tuition reimbursement plan is a big minus.

I worked at ArcelorMittal full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Large global company - if in the right group you'll get exposed to a wide range of people and cultures.

    Cons

The company moves at a glacier's pace. No entrepreneurial spirit. Too many layers. No freedom to try anything even if you have market data to support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try being "leaders" and "coaches" and not just strict managers.
