    The coal bussiness is bad right now and they lay off regularly with out notice and normally keep people based on friendships instead of performance

    Pros

    Brand recognition
    Interact with workforce from poland, romania, czech republic, france, luxembourg, india, venezuela, brazil, china... you name it
    Very close to the world market movers

    Cons

    Still complicated due to $32B merger many years ago
    Forced rationalization always comes too little, too late
    Indebted company, "junk" status

    Advice to Management

    Cut out some of the tectonic layers of non-operations middle management ("technical advisors")
    Get rid of the centralized system for SAP administration and logistics chartering
    Stop flooding the domestic US market with lower quality material

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

    culture for H&S and results,
    good training programmes - able to change mind sets;
    challenging working environment - tight deadlines, expectation for results are ussually "yesterday";
    experienced people, multinational culture,

    Cons

    too many layers of managers - often political type with low practical skills;
    some superficiality in "yesterday" results evaluation - we will see lots of projects with lots of benefits while cash in not in the accounts;
    pressure on management is quite high;

    Advice to Management

    don't spread focus in hundreds of projects, KPI's;
    don't let politics to decide growth Capex;
    use more the benchmarking tools and align methods of performance measurements for both people and bussinesses

    Pros

    Could be a world class company if the company whould listen to the ground employees and praise the workers more often for what they are doing not breaking there moral and also the way top management is speeking to the employees

    Cons

    To many managers who want to give orders and the disisions that they are making does not make sense have to have a balance of who must do what and to many nitty gritty stuff that they are focusing on

    Advice to Management

    Look listen inplement praise and then u wil get results

    Can have a chance to work with people from different engineering backgrounds (electrical, mining, etc.)

    Cons

    The location is very far (from big cities like Mtl or Qc) at least, but it doesn't matter if you like small town life.
    The bureaucracy is pretty rigid, hard to get anything done.
    Very old technologies are still being maintained.
