    Teaching Customer Classes!

Nursery Professional (Current Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsSpring is here and our store looks amazing. We work hard to make everything look beautiful and it is so rewarding working with our customers to bring their gardening vision to reality. As an associate I have been most excited to teach our weekly in store classes. Not only do I get to share all of the great information I have - I get paid to do it! Feeling appreciated and excited.

ConsThere's always something to do and the work is never done. It's a fine balance between the work that we have to do to keep our store running and making sure that the customers that are in our store get all of the help that they need.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Long Time Armstrong Employee

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsWork with great people, great plant material, great customers. Employee owned. Good benefits (health, dental, 401k, shares in the company, paid vacation and holidays). I love that I can work outside and help people with their gardens.

ConsNeed to work weekends, but this can be flexible for special occasions. There is a decent amount of physical work, so you need to be prepared for that.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep positive and listen to what your employees have to offer.

Armstrong - Working as an Employee Owner

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsEach employee earns ownership in the company - even part time employees! There is a definite benefit to working for the largest independent garden center in the country. There is a unique working environment where employees who want to work hard and develop can build a career in retail, wholesale, buying or merchandising. A diversity of work opportunities both indoors and out. Proud to work for a company that provides a career path for maintenance associates to promote themselves up to store manager and beyond. Most proud to be an owner in the company I work that has come through hardwork, focus and dedication. The best of all - we work outside and make peoples lives beautiful and our company has proudly done so for over 125 years! There's not many other companies that do that!

ConsWe work hard and play hard! Our business is seasonal, but as hard as the work can be sometimes, we live for making our customers happy and getting our hands dirty!

Advice to Senior ManagementOur associates are the lifeblood of the company - they are the frontline to the customer and they are the backbone that makes our company the best it can be. We continue to focus on the having the best associates in the industry which allows us as a company to continue to grow.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
